So much to choose from. Any recommendations where to start from?

What are you interested in? A lot of stuff will go over your head if you're just reading research papers (plus they're generally boring) so I'd try reading a review article, since they're usually more accessible.

Just tried to change from a subject I'm not enjoying (Arts Foundation - Reason) but found I'd be stuck with class slots that aren't exactly ideal due to the ones I wanted to choose being full.  :-\ So I ended enrolling in the same subject again.

Just curious...what's Reason like? I was thinking of enrolling in it, but I ended up choosing Power.

It seems rather philosophically based so far, so if you are interested in that type of area then it'd be enjoyable, but it doesn't really appeal to me. That being said, I'm not that far into the course.
How is Power? I had been thinking of switching into Identity or possibly Power.

Power is not too bad, we're mainly looking at how power is conceptualised and exploring theories by Marx and Weber. It's a bit varied but I've found the lectures to be a bit disengaging.

Microwaves are in the Union Lounge. I am pretty sure there are no sandwich pressers to use. I have a friend who uses the Wom*n's room for their fridge but that's about it...
There are also fridges in the Spot building I guess. Pretty far off to head down there though

I've heard from a few people doing Identity that it's not particularly interesting, but don't take it from me! Maybe slip into a lecture and see if you like it?

Can we study level 2 subjects next semester, if we're still first year students? I've realised just recently that Arts students can't take economics subjects as an Arts discipline subjects and they have to come from breadth, even the core economics subjects like Intro Micro and Macro and my study plan is screwed. Argh.

Does anyone know if this subject will be a prerequisite for any of the subjects in the applied maths major in 2014?
https://handbook.unimelb.edu.au/view/2012/MAST20009

I'm asking because I've decided to do Vector Calculus in semester two, which would mean I won't be able to do Differential Equations for at least another year, which would then push back a couple of other maths subjects Differential Equations is a prerequisite for, which means I'll need to spend an extra year at uni to complete my undergrad...

It would've been nice if they had given us a bit more warning, so I could plan my degree accordingly, now I'll probably be stuck doing one subject in semester 1 of 2015, and then doing one subject in the following semester, which is just such a waste of time...

If I remember correctly, there's a sandwich press and microwave in level 1 of the Education Building (Leicester St) - pretty far walk though from main campus!

Wow...I never anticipated how dry and mind-numbingly boring Finance 1 is. I'm considering dropping it for another breadth although we're already into week 3... Would it be a wise move if I seriously dislike this subject? And what are some breadths with low workloads that I can ease into?

Yeaah, no point doing a breadth subject you don't like :) Email the subject coordinator and they'll most likely let you into your new subject :) From what I know, Education breadths tend to have low workloads (if you count 'low workload' as having no exam) but then they've got essays that are worth a lot (like 65% for a 2500 word essay haha)
