I just had a thought as I am typing an essay.

Say an article you are reading has a quote from another article, can you reference the other article (which the quote originally comes from), even if you don't read that article? I am just thinking, the more references I have, the better my essay may look hahaha :/

I guess you could call it double referencing...has anyone every done this/is this allowed?

It's always best to go to the original source. So I guess if you're just citing the quote then it's best to go to the article it originally came from. Only cite the article you have read if there is something directly from it you wish to use.

So if you have a chance probably good to go to the article the quote directly comes from to grab its page number.

The purpose of citing is to cite an original idea.  If the person you are citing cited their idea off someone else, you're not really doing the job of citing correctly yourself.  So you should reference the article the quote comes from HOWEVER: you should always check the reference.

Here it is a quote, but things are not always a quote.  It's very easy to twist references to your advantage when you're writing an essay and depending on what it is, this might be done.  You should go and look at what the original source actually said because that person's interpretation of what was said might just be convenient for them and not the whole truth.  I have no idea what kind of article it is, though.  You will find if you back-reference a lot (read an initial article and pull sources from that article, look them up and read those and pull sources from those articles) that you sometimes don't understand how the person is referencing an article to make their point after you've read both.

Yes! I have my interview tomorrow.

Gratz!

Looks like I didn't get an interview this year if offers have been made, but managed to tutor last year. Hope you get through, it's good fun :D

Nah, don't think that mate. They've got plenty of interview slots. I e-mailed them last night and they told me I was just being too keen and they're letting people know progressively :)

Is anyone else annoyed with their Physiology blog 1 mark?
I have no idea how I only got a "G" for the phys blog 1  :'( I posted every day, mostly twice a day, and I posted informed comments, which I referenced...
I tried to be super keen about it, so I have no idea what went wrong.
I though the criteria for an "EX" was to post 3-4 times a week, read the blog every day, respond to other students questions, etc..

Thanks pi! And as trav said, the interviews go on until the end of next week, or even beyond. I don't think they've scheduled a lot of them yet because they offered to reschedule mine and seemed to have quite a few times available as of now, so it's very likely they're doing it progressively. They'd be mad not to hire you!

They did double-book my rescheduled time today though. Had me nervously reaching for my phone to check that I hadn't gotten the time wrong haha.

Wippee! Really hoping I get it, seems like a blast. Is anyone else planning on doing summer semester this year for uni, also?

Also, y'all should apply for this:

http://muhi.org.au/programs/swot/
http://muhi.org.au/programs/swot/volunteer-application/

It's a VCE revision program for under-represented schools being run during the mid-semester break. Applications for Subject Managers/lecturer closed a while ago (I'm the SM for English) but we're recruiting tutors now to run smaller sessions right after the lectures (there should be three 1 hour tutorials on the day, or two 1.5 hour tutorials, and 3 hours worth of lectures). Great way to get involved! If you want any more info feel free to PM me!

EDIT: Applications are closing on Friday week!

I got excellent for mine and posted 3-4 times a week.
I would seriously contact your forum supervisor and ask what you did wrong (edit: if it was even anything at all).

I got an Ex and I didn't post everyday. I'm happy with it but it's annoying when they don't give us the criteria.  >:(

Haha I think the criteria is just engaging with the topic and working together to provide an informative discussion of different possibilities/ mechanisms to a particular issue.
