@Sashimi: How can they deduct marks for that without mentioning/hinting at it at all in any of the assignment guidelines? They literally told us to copy+paste and then write two words, so it seems like bullshit to me. People are losing marks for not doing things that there was no indication of requirement for :(

Gosh the Human Physiology blogs are so stupid...
They are the biggest waste of time.
I have put so much effort into them, and I have learnt absolutely nothing.
Is anyone else finding them as boring/useless as I am?
They ruin such a great subject!  :-\

They already sound like a big waste of time. What are you supposed to write about anyway?

Boring yes, useless.. don't know about that.
I mean I would obviously prefer concept checks so i could get them done in one go but you do kind of have to look at your material for blogs too.
They are time-wasting, I agree.

Our blog this week is about an article on the kidneys. We are supposed to use what we have learnt in lectures to discuss the author's main points.

If you find reading an article and posting thoughts about it boring and useless, you might be in for a tough time in the future

I don't particularly find the readings boring, I find the blogs in general a bit tedious/boring.
I actually like reading articles, and even if I didn't, I'd read them anyway because if you want to get anywhere, sometimes
you have do things you don't like  ;D

Every time someone asks me what my major is, I give a different response.  :o I've been a biochemistry major, physiology major, pathology major and neuroscience major over the past week. What major would you choose if you

  • Like biochemistry, but are very poor at physical/inorganic chemistry.

    Love analysis and dislike memorization

But are probably better at memorization than analysis

Do not like molecular biology and related areas (immunology, histology)

But love anatomy and anything else related to the human body (more than willing to rote memorize arbitrary names of 34932049230 bones/muscles)

Want something quite specific (not physiology), almost eccentric

Really, really, really hate psychology, with a burning passion. But very proficient at it

Want to work in medical research, involving diseases - but not mental illness

Employment opportunities etc not a priority, only interest and personal ability

If you want to do medical research (through Honours, I'm assuming), they're not too fussed with what major you have. Just because you major in biochemistry doesn't stop you from doing an Honours project/research in the neuroscience department. It'd certainly help if you've done relevant subjects, but they're also interested in your passion, enthusiasm etc.

I was still tossing up between majors midway this year.

I'd definitely recommend doing biochemistry and lots of practical subjects if you're interested in research. Look at the handbook at majors/third year subjects and make sure you'll have done the right/enough 2nd year prereqs.

You should try out pharmacology which is diseases + therapeutics. You don't have to memorise a bunch of drug names or anything, it's more focused on how different types of drugs work in the body. They have a 2nd year subject in semester 2.
