My friend got a spot for optom already but she submitted an early application so those who submitted timely apps will have to wait for later!

I wonder if they have to split the number of offer places equally for the early and timely rounds
2012-2014. BSc: Neuroscience. University of Melbourne.
2015-2018. Doctor of Optometry. University of Melbourne.

Unlikely to respond to any PMs these days.

I find it to be a very strange way of accepting applicants.. The timely applications could potentially have individuals with higher GPAs and GAMSATs but seeing as how early offers must be accepted before the 16th of Sept, I feel it is a way of weeding out people who actually want to do optom versus those who may only be taking it as a backup for missing med.

Well I've had a crappy afternoon with the news I didn't get an interview for med.
It's annoying that I didn't get any reward for 3 and 1/2 months of really hard work before the GAMSAT.
Anyway, I'm just going to keep trying and trying until I get a spot :) I don't care if it takes me 5 years!

Those are great scores though; all of that effort will pay off when you're miles ahead in revision during the next round and smash all your exams ♥

HI, all

Is it true that Melbourne favors their students more than other universities?
I'm thinking of doing a biomedicine course at Monash because I highly doubt I can get a 99+ for biomedicine at Melbourne

So my question is..
If I finish my degree and perform well for the GAMSAT, what are my chance of getting in to med at Melbourne?
If I get ~80% , will a student from Melbourne who got ~75% have an advantage.

lol sorry if it sounds like a stupid question, but I'm kind of intrigued.

Thanks in advanced

Nah what uni you go to has no factor in this. Melb uni does have pre req subjects you need to do to apply tho so if you go elsewhere make sure the subjects you take are sufficient or you might not be able to apply.

Melbourne doesn't care about whatever you do at whatever uni, as long as you satisfy the pre-reqs. However, from 2017 onwards, Monash will give most of their graduate spots (50 out of 75) to their biomed students, so that's something you'll have to consider

Good luck with that.
(Or maybe just DMI)

Not looking forward to watching some friends potentially not get interviews 3:
I applied for guaranteed entry so I think my interview has to be at Melb anyway.

When you are accepted into optometry this year El2012, I am going to make you test me on Snellen charts like every week sorry not sorry.

Having no idea how to approach a creative assignment (i.e. deafness and communication practical assignment Turtle) is one of the worst feelings ever :/

You've kept up with Physics? Congrats, last year we all cbf'd by the time it was week 4.

Good luck for interview offers people. :)

I'll be the first to admit that I hate Physics, and I was expecting the absolute worst this semester, but so far there is incredibly little to complain about and I don't know why. Most people haven't had too many troubles with motion or fluids - the main gripe is with crappy practical demonstrators. I hope it doesn't get worse from here on though because I can definitely cope with it at the moment.

N.B. Monash biomed is designed to fulfil all the subject prerequisites for UoM MD so you'd be fine for that if you ended up at Monash :)

The upside to being one of those 50 is apparently that you don't need to sit the GAMSAT to get a place in the postgrad MBBS. It'll be pretty bloody competitive (biomed cohort size is about 400 at the moment and will only increase towards 2017), but you're still keeping your options open for other med courses by doing biomed wherever.
