I'll be the first to admit that I hate Physics, and I was expecting the absolute worst this semester, but so far there is incredibly little to complain about and I don't know why. Most people haven't had too many troubles with motion or fluids - the main gripe is with crappy practical demonstrators. I hope it doesn't get worse from here on though because I can definitely cope with it at the moment.

Is Martin lecturing Kinematics to Energy for you guys? Or is Rob doing that part now?

I found that with the latter part of the course a lot of excess information was given but you can ignore those, just focus on basic concepts. Like I remember Rob went on about Schrodinger Equations and the Heisenberg principle, which you don't really need to know...

Martin's taking us for the first six weeks and he's covering motion, fluids and energy/thermal physics.

Having no idea how to approach a creative assignment (i.e. deafness and communication practical assignment Turtle) is one of the worst feelings ever :/

I know, I am the least creative person ever!!
I like making posters though, so I think I am going to do that. It makes me feel like I'm in year 7 again haha  ;D

I can see where the confusion might arise given that a postgrad bachelors degree(s) is a pretty bizarre notion! But yeah, Monash has an undergrad MBBS at both clayton and gippsland, and a postgrad one in gippsland. I think we also offer an MD course but you need to already have an MBBS or something weird like that.

I thought an MBBS and an MD were both med degrees?

Well they are; I think the difference here is more institutional than anything. I'd imagine that MBBS ~ MD at UoM, while the MD at monash is like a med PhD (I think, it's kind of confusing)

It's silly and political but;

MD (Doctor of Medicine) used to be the same thing across Australia; a level 10 degree ie PhD level. To do it, you needed to have finished a medical degree and have some amount of experience as a doctor.

Melbourne has renamed their old MD to "Master of Medicine", which is the current PhD/level 10 degree. The new MD is a master level degree (level 9) that is a medical degree. The MD at Monash is the same as it used to be. The Monash MBBS is a Bachelor degree (lvl 7 or 8 depending) but is recognized as equal to the MD for the purposes of medical education.

Thanks for the clarification! It would be interesting to see if Victorian/Australian universities will work to standardise titles of medical degrees in the future.

Well I've had a crappy afternoon with the news I didn't get an interview for med.
Guess a 6.67 gpa and 60 GAMSAT aren't enough for Deakin or Melbourne.
It's annoying that I didn't get any reward for 3 and 1/2 months of really hard work before the GAMSAT.
Anyway, I'm just going to keep trying and trying until I get a spot :) I don't care if it takes me 5 years!

that sucks, but I admire your attitude - not everyone will take this seriously, but I find it quite inspiring: tedtalk on grit and success

what do you plan on doing after undergrad?

see you're going for honours, best of luck
