We just got that destination Melb email too, sounds like loads of fun.  We will be away though that week.    Seems to be for rural and under represented schools.   I wish the dates were different.

For breadth tracks, do we need to take the subjects consecutively?? As in, first one in first semester, then second one in second semester etc. Or do you complete the track over your degree, regardless of which semester you take it in... if that made any sense?
Pls do not send me a pm about Aspire applications. The process has vastly changed since I applied.

You might need to be careful with subjects not being offered in certain semesters (which is common with, for example, languages) in which case it would make sense to take them consecutively.

Other than that, I don't think that there's any rule requiring you to do so - after all breadth tracks are just sets of recommendations, and you don't actually have to follow one.

Hi! I have a question (sorry if it's silly) regarding Microbiology and Immunology major, can you do both Microbiology and also Infection and Immunity specialisations. or just one or the other? I think there's only one subject difference between both specialisations.

You can technically do both but I don't think you'll have both of them listed together on your degree. Like right now I satisfy Infections and Immunity and the Immunology major but I'll probably only get recognised for infections.

If I want to do a concurrent diploma in french, do I need to choose french 1 and 2 for my breadth subjects or can I choose french 1 and then something completely unrelated, like medieval history?  :)

The major that will print out on your transcript will be the one specified as your major in study plan.  Edit: if this is an area of confusion, in BSci that refers to a single major as you can only have one major even if you satisfy the requirements for multiple majors.

How long does it take for subjects to get credited? I did 8 subjects at RMIT and now I've transferred to UoM, but I need to know which subjects will get recognised before I can choose my subjects and complete my enrolment.

Also, is it possible to only get some subjects credited and not others? I don't want to waste all my breadth on the subjects I did at RMIT, because I need my breadth for the maths side of my Actuarial Studies major.

If you wanted to get recognised for Immunology, would you only need to do one more year or do several? There are just so many majors I"m interested in. Thank the lord for them all having the same prerequisite first year subjects which gives a year to think about it. Also do the two majors your qualify for allow you to do medicine?

You can't do extra years to do more majors.  You can only do one major irrespective of how many you might want to do.  You can't take more than 300 credit points - your course offer only allows you to do that much.
There's also legitimately no point in getting 'recognised' for Immunology - Infections and Immunity IS an Immunology major, it's basically the old form of my major which was Microbiology and Immunology.
You can study anything at undergrad level and be eligible for medicine (MD at Melb) AS LONG as you have done the three prerequisite SUBJECTS.  There is no prerequisite major or expectation.  You can do an Arts degree, a Commerce degree etc and just do the prereq subjects (Anatomy, Physiology and Biochem) through breadth and still be eligible for the Melbourne MD.  It legit doesn't matter what major you do whatsoever.

S@S - you will only get credit for subjects that you apply to have credited.  So you get to decide which ones and how many.  You need to submit forms to the student centre - I would go and talk to the student centre about it and devise your course plan, then you will know which ones you want to credit and how many etc.  Congrats on your offer.

Breadth tracks aren't anything formal or constraining. They're just a guideline if you're interested in a particular field of study that isn't covered by your degree. When you take the subjects would depend on which semester they run in and what prerequisites are required. But I'm sure they're constructed so that each subject fulfils the prereqs of the next, and presumably it would be a progressive semester-by-semester sort of thing.

But I think it'd be safe to say that most students just pick and choose their own breadths rather than sticking on a given track.

In that case, would

PHYC10008 From the Solar System to the Cosmos

satisfy the level 1 Physics requirement?

Can't see why not.

Just a tip for any first years (or any other year for that matter) who might be thinking they need to ask some questions about your study plan or whatnot: Go in now.

I was in yesterday and the science student centre was pretty much deserted. Zero wait time. I imagine the commerce and arts ones would be much the same. These places get mega, mega busy in O-Week and in the first week of semester, so if you would like to have a chat with someone about your course try to get in early.
