Hopefully this isn't the case for level 2 subjects also taken at level 1, like languages

I imagine it will be, the simplest way to do it is via subject level.

Okay so I've contacted 13 MELB as well as the Language Testing and Research Centre and neither of them have been able to fix my issue of not being able to access my placement test to enrol in Japanese 3 and 4, and the enrolment lapse date is this Friday. Should I just enrol in Japanese 1 & 2 and try to fix the issue after that?

Have you tried resetting your password? Next step if you have would be to visit a Student IT help desk. Locations are in the Baillieu, ERC and Giblin Eunson libraries. Alternatively submit a ticket at studentit.unimelb.edu.au

That sounds sensible. You can fiddle with your subject choices at any time until the second week of semester - hopefully you'll get it sorted well before then.

Also, unless you're an international student, I'm pretty sure you only need to be enrolled in one subject per semester to maintain your enrolment and get your student card! So don't panic.

Do i have to be enrolled in one subject per semester for just first year or all 3 years?

You can only enrol one year at a time. So right now you're enrolling for 2015 (only), although you can put higher level subjects in your study planner if you want. Then in December, after exams are over and results come out, you choose your 2016 subjects and enrol in those. And so on.

Did that subject for 2 days, dropped it. Probably one of the most driest subjects ever. No joke. If your looking for an easy 12.5 credit points then take it, if your looking for something more interesting, stay well away.

The subject isn't actually that 'easy'. You have to write 6 essays that are 700-800 words each. You don't have much guidance about how to write them, so the marking imo is really subjective. I know some of my friends that paraphrased the book. While the answers are in the book, paraphrasing the book won't get you the marks, you actually have to do your own research and write a coherent, fluent 800 word essay. Easier said than done.

I would advise against taking breadth subjects because they are classified as 'easy'. Take a subject that you enjoy and are interested in, that way you will be more motivated to work harder and get a better grade. Have a look at the handbook and the subject reviews to help you choose.

Additionally it seems registration times are staggered - first year subjects at 8am, second and third year subjects at 2pm. Woohoo, I can keep sleeping in! Poor first years though

Do you mean class registration on Monday? I thought it starts at 10 am?
Or do you mean the start times for first year classes? Cause I've looked at the list timetable for my subjects and most have a start of 9 am.

He's talking about class registration times.
Have a look at the latest notice from the student portal:

"Opening Times for Class Registration
Posted by University Services on Thursday 29 January 2015

Class registration for undergraduate Semester 1 and Year Long subjects will open on Monday 2 February.

• 8am: First year subjects (codes xxxx10000 —19999).
• 2pm: Second/third year subjects (codes xxxx20000 — 39999).

Staggering the opening times by year level will improve class registration by reducing traffic and maximising system performance.

4 Tips to optimise your class registration experience:
1. Limit your access to one session. Attempting to simultaneously log in with multiple devices and browsers will slow down system access for you and others.
2. Avoid refreshing the page. Refreshing will cause further delays, as you will be taken to the back of the processing queue.
3. Only reload the page by hitting the ‘back’ button if you receive an error message, such as ‘page cannot be displayed’ or ‘application error’.
4. If you see a blank page when attempting to log in, please continue to wait as this means you’re in the queue.

Getting help:
You can find information on how to plan, register, and change classes, making changes to your timetable on the Enrolment website (link 1).

13 MELB will be extending chat and phone opening hours on Monday 2 February to provide registration support. These services will be available from 8.00am to 7.00pm.

13 MELB will also be answering queries and providing updates on Facebook (link 2) and Twitter (link 3) between 8.00am and 5.00pm on Monday 2 February.

Anyone have any experience with the four level 1 history subjects (The Great War 1914 to 1918 - HIST10014, Medieval Plague, War and Heresy - HIST10007, The World Since World War I - HIST10012, Age of Empires - HIST10010)?

I'm currently leaning towards The Great War as it appeals to me the most, but given the discrepancies in lecture/curriculum quality etc. that exist, I was wondering if anyone had any advice as to whether there are any standouts (good or bad) within this list.

I did this subject in first year. The lectures were sometimes boring but the excursion was good. The most trouble I ha with it was assessment. You're supposed to have four hours of tutes each day but when you go, all you do is write your responses. The lecturer walks around the rooms every half hour or so and is not allowed to give specific answers so most people didn't go to them by the end of the week as they simply weren't helpful or productive. You get little guidance with what is expected in a good response and in a very short word limit. The lecturer wrote the text book so the lectures are almost word-for-word the same so it makes it difficult to not write essentially what he's written in your answers since he says you shouldn't have to source elsewhere. This subject turned me off intensives almost for the rest of my degree.

Hi guys,

I'm doing the Bachelor of Science, majoring in computing and software systems. Under which heading am I supposed to pick Accelerated Maths here? It's a bit confusing.

Thanks

Has anyone done Introductory microeconomics and introductory macroeconomics that could let me know if knowledge from micro is essential for macro? Two of my other breadths are only available in sem 2, thus I wanted to take micro sem 1 first year, and macro sem 1, second year. Thanks.
