I sincerely hope CHEM10006 is one of those subjects where it is totally confusing the entire semester and then when you start preparing for exams things just start falling together into place, making you wonder how you didn't understand it the first time. I walk out of every lecture wondering "WTF was that lecture even about?!"

Bio (minus the tutes) have been fantastic tho. Mary has been my fave lecturer thus far, and the content we're learning now is incredibly interesting to learn

There'll be an epiphany moment some time. I had the same feeling for most first year subjects to be honest, excluding bio.

I've heard biomed chem is awfully taught. From what I've seen from last year, it wasn't the most coherent or logically ordered subject.

I personally hated bio last year. I'm not touching biology again for a while.

Hmm, CHEM10006 should've undergone a number of changes from last year (well that's what we got told anyway) so the fact you're still reporting these sorts of difficulties is concerning. This subject requires you to go beyond relying on the lectures - the textbook is amazing, as are many of the tutors available to help you. Do not neglect these resources during the semester. This sounds terrible, but for many people last year the lightbulb moment never came, although that's more likely due to a lack of actually sourcing the help they required. Amongst my friendship group none of us hesitated to email staff, drop in during the consultation hours etc. and most of us managed H1s despite a relatively low average amongst the rest of the cohort. Go beyond the lectures and I ensure that you'll be fine. :)

PHYS20008 Mid-Sem Marks are out.

Marks confirm that this mid-sem was one of the most difficult of all time (confirmed by Charles).

I did human phys last year, first sem and when I spoke to Charles last week, he said that they always made the first mid-sem too easy so I guess they changed that this year! But he tends to be pretty fair so hopefully they'll make the second one a bit easier for you  :)

Yeah Charles is pretty no bullshit when he says that PHYS20008 is one of the hardest subjects you will take in undergrad. I would beg to differ - but his point is that it's so integrative which is what makes it so hard. That said he is fair and makes it really really clear what is expected of you.... He can't do much more than that...!

Phys is one of those subs where you think you understand everything because Charles explains everything really neatly. But then you get buttfucked in assessment.

I don't know; I thought I'd like cell biology but out of all the topics so far it has been the worst for me. I just couldn't engage with the material at all, and I'm basically still at square one in terms of committing it all to memory. Biochemistry and genetics were much better, but I'm really hoping microbiology/immunology wins me over.
