^Chem for biomed for Shenz0r & I was a different course to the one currently running. It was perfectly fine for us (which makes sense, considering we were the last year running on it)

I would choose Stats over Maths for Biomed but that's because I was in the guinea pig semester for Maths for Biomed and it was poorly taught with a lack of information in all departments (tutes, lecture notes, exam format etc)

oh no... even worse than Chem for Biomed tho?

No, most second years will tell you that Physics was better than Chemistry, but that's because they toyed around with the Chemistry course in our year. As I said in my review, I think the key reason why people talk so poorly of physics is because of the subject itself. Yes, it's horrible to study, but I can't hold much against the department for how they ran the subject.

Re: first year physics.

I should also say that PHYC10003 uses formulae that are more elaborated than what you'll find on the GAMSAT. If you can understand these, good! If not, don't worry - just learn the fundamentals.

I have attached a past exam, which includes the formulae sheet, as well as the answer sheet (in case you attempt the exam later on).

Chem was pretty good for us. I think it took a turn for the worse the year after us.

It wasn't just the subject itself but the way it was taught as well. I didn't understand the lecturers a lot of the time and mostly relied on the textbook, which you can easily do in physics. Although one of the lecturers did place a question involving his research on the exam, which i had no idea how to do...

"I've used this analogy before: girls, if ubiquitin was your boyfriend it would do the lot. It would take out your rubbish, it would remember your birthday and it would be nice to your mom. It would do everything that you could possibly want."
WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN.

HAHAHAHAHHAHA sooooo much of his lectures were like that... I'm thinking we should just answer his exam questions as a string of analogies.

Hey guys,

I've got a 2 part question

1) Is there any Honours subject, I am doing BSc atm, that isn't research based? For example, I am better at learning something and doing an exam than doing research and would prefer to do an honours year that way

2) If I am unsure wether I will get into a postgraduate program or if I should do an honours year, what should I do? Should I apply for Honours regardless?

I couldn't find anything on the UoM website, what time does the Redmond Barry library close on weekdays?

In fact it doesn't. The state library has a Redmond Barry collection which is where the book I'm after is at. I just saw "on the shelf at Redmond Barry" and thought oh, that's at Melbourne, right?

Started my revision (finally) for BIOM20001 MST 2 today. I think I'm just starting to realise how much I have to do and need to learn. And having glanced at this week's immunology lectures, I almost wanted to cry. Peers, if you're reading this, I propose a call to arms. We need to work much better together if we're going to get through the remainder of the subject's assessment alive. Otherwise, we're going to have the biggest fail rate in history. We can do it, but it's going to be an uphill battle, so let's pull together and get the job done.

Quiz offs with other people are the best way you can quickly consolidate all that info, make sure when your friends answer your questions that their answers are as detailed as possible, soon you'll be memorising things you never thought you were capable of.

Also with Odilia (she's lecturing you guys right) make sure you know the signal 3 pathways (which cytokines bias which Th differentiation, and which Ths secrete what cytokine and their function). That's bound to always come up in like everything

1) Not really. Honours in every field will require a substantial research project. In every BSc honours I've seen the project is worth >50 of the final mark. (edit: apparently psychology is the exception)

2) Apply for both. You don't need to accept either offer if you don't want to/can accept Honours if you don't get into your preferred postgrad program.

(I'd caution against doing Honours if it's just a 'plan B' for not getting into a postgraduate program.)
