Has anyone ever complained about an exam to the uni? I sat FOOD20003 today and the MC section had terrible grammar. For example something like this "calcitonin cause higher calcium responded" again and again from one particular lecturer's questions. I felt like I was going crazy trying to decipher what each MC option meant! Everyone that sat it definitely noticed it. I'm not sure if my friends and I should complain, I mean if no one says anything then poorly written exams like this can just slip under the radar. It's beyond me how none of the other lecturers noted it..

Complain to the subject coordinator, then head of department. Get the union involved at the second stage if possible - and yeah, best to do it as a group.

Give it a day or so - there's a chance (abet unlikely) that they noticed it and are working on a response now.

Yeah I've heard that CHEM 2 is apparently absolutely fudged haha... ''If you think CHEM 1 was bad, think again''.

Am I the only person who liked Chem 2 more then Chem 1 (and went better in Chem 2?) Chem 2 is much more interesting for me, while half of Chem 1 was a repeat of high school chemistry.

It's definitely harder though. I don't recommend studying ahead often, but it might be worth opening up an organic chemistry book and starting to get a feel for organic reactions. Whole new way of thinking.

I was wondering when they were finally going to do this....yay! I wonder what made them implement this policy

I asked one of the supervisors and apparently someone complained that the shipping containers made REB 'look ugly' so the university can't put them there anymore. Yay for us!

I didn't do the subject but I know who/what you're complaining about. Same thing happened last year so obviously the other lectures don't check it or just don't care about it or something like that. It's probably worth letting the department head/other lecturers know about it. It's happened at least two years in a row so they may just not have noticed it!

Yeah, chem 2 was better for me as well! Found it way more interesting and felt that I actually was applying what was taught. As for the difficulty...let me just say that you'll probably be scratching your head an awful lot. It's not a subject that you can afford to neglect. I left much of the chem 2 revision for swotvac, which somehow worked for me, but would strongly recommend keeping up to date with it throughout the semester making sure that you are familiar and comfortable with the topics on a week by week basis. Otherwise, you'll get to swotvac and have a list of reaction schemes in your notes and no idea what to do with them.

Totally agree with mahler ^ I liked parts of Chem 2 more, and got 5% higher than in Chem 1 - it's not actually that bad :) just use the textbook for quantum and spend a lot of time on your organic pathways.

Yep. As long as they're switched off.

M8 if you think first year chem/ physics is bad, you should try first year optics -slowly dying right now-

Anyone else year had minimal sleep in recent weeks? Never realised how much of a luxury it truly was.

Bring back memories of physics fundamentals when we learnt about optics/light fml..

I seriously don't know what's happened to me this SWOTVAC... I think I must've burnt out. I've pretty much slept 12am-9:30am most days, started my revision about 11am and (with a number of breaks in-between) would finish around 7pm for dinner, and maybe after dinner would do another hour or two. This is in comparison to my last two SWOTVACs, where by early morning (anywhere between 7am-10am) I was usually raring to go and I'd work full throttle until until around 11pm. I guess my exams are later than they have been so I've been able to ration my workload to a greater extent, but even then I haven't felt at all compelled to try and do more with my time, and for some reason it doesn't really bother me. That being said, I did find this semester extremely tough, and I was pretty much sleep deprived, sick and a bit down during weeks 7-12, which I'm not feeling anymore due to the fact that I have had a reprieve. So perhaps what I haven't done in terms of work I've made up for in getting myself in a much more positive frame of mind. Maybe I'll be eating my words and regretting all this if I realise during my exams how screwed I am... We'll have to wait and see.

Anyway, wishing my fellow second year Biomedicine students the best of luck with BIOM20001 exam A tomorrow. :)

Or maybe you've just learnt to study more effectively so you're not breaking your back panicking about your subjects.  8)
