So apparently finance 1 in semester 2 is bad because of the lecturer setting a ridiculous exam. Should I just do it during the summer then? (sturla.fjesme is the lecturer)

Just sort of hijacking the finance 1 discussion, do I have to do finance 1 to major in finance? I think there's another pathway if you do QM1 and IFA but I'm not sure, I emailed the student centre but they didn't reply :(

Yep it's fine to do qm1 and ifa to get into business finance. That said, if you want to major in finance it is probably good to get an introduction to it in first year? That way if you absolutely hate it you will still have all your options open. There are also second year finance subjects that you can enter with either business finance or finance 1 as a prereq, so which pathway you decide will affect the subjects you can do later on (but busfi alone will get you into enough 3rd year subjects for the major).

For what it's worth, I didn't do finance 1 and didn't feel disadvantaged in business finance seeing as it's taught from scratch. However I had covered all the financial maths stuff in other subjects so I'm not sure what the pace feels like if you haven't seen it before.

Does anyone have the Vector Calculus lecture slides PDF that I could have a look at?

Hopefully it can convince me to do it as an elective.

Can't really help but maybe if you have time you could swing by the coop? Most maths subjects usually have the slides sold in there. Not sure if they're stocked for sem2 but there'd probably be leftovers from sem1 anyway haha.

Swing by Chat and I'll chuck you a link to the PDF (AN's PMs are apparently still broken)

Lecturer did set a hard exam last year but it was then scaled so it doesn't impact you too much.

It does impact you while you're doing the exam and in the weeks leading up to results being released. I walked out of Finance 1 thinking I had failed the exam, and hence the subject as well, since it was 80% and a hurdle. Ended up getting a H1 due to absurd scaling, but it was pretty stressful to think about what actions I had to take in the near future to get my university life back on track.

That being said it's impossible to understand most lecturers if you set the speed over 2.0x

actually i disagree. it's fine if you build up to it i find that once you get used to any lecturer at 1.7 times, 2 times is fine, and once you get used to that you can go even higher. but jumping into anything above about 1.5 when i havent listened to that lecturer before is nasty

Depends, some lecturers I struggle to comprehend at 1.0X speed whereas some speak at a snail's pace so 2X speed is no issue ;)
