Did any of you guys buy the Gold Standard textbook for GAMSAT prep and find it worthwhile?

For those who have done the Comparative Animal Physiology subject, did you also do Human Physiology? If I have nt don't human physiology, will i find this subject difficult?

Also, how hard were the pracs? I personally hated the chemistry practicals therefore am very pessimistic in picking this subject :(

just wanna bump this

The new layout is surprising

just wanna bump this

Doing this subject without human phys is possible. They concentrate more on the unique physiological developments of animals. As for the pracs, do concentrate on what they want in each report and being concise in lab reports. I got a 79 overall for slipping in this area. >:(

It's alright but not necessary I suppose. It depends on your background on how much science content you are familiar with (but not with MCAT level understanding) and of the reading comprehension and 30 minute essay portions. If you are fairly confident, then it's not necessary.

still a great mark :)

can you tell me what an average lab report would consist of?

How long did they take to write up?

Yeah well, considering that I'm a med hopeful where GPA calculation counts the letter more than the avg, I flip tables every semester as I get these type of scores every god damn semester.

A week should be enough. You'll generally have to do an abstract, intro w/background research, methods, results, and a really good discussion portion that looks through every nook and cranny of your graphed results.

is it common for my subjects to still be not currently available?

I just received an email from my Comparative Animal Phys co-ordinator saying that the lecture handouts are available for the first week, however the subject is unavailable...

I never got one (because I didn't go to any phys lectures whatuppp).

You only use it when the lecturer does an in-class quiz, not necessary and if you lose it you have to pay for it.

If I still have mine you can have it for cheap. How much are they retailing for?

Edit: looks like they've changed the textbook since 2013 which also means there may not be anyone who can answer your question
Since I cant pm you, is this the book that you have http://www.coop.com.au/books/engr10003-engineering-systems-design-2-introduction-to-digital-systems-programming-and-mechanics/hanselman/9781486001668?___store=bks

Just means the subject coordinator hasn't put it online yet, I guess they'll realize soon enough or you could email them.

Does anyone know if they consider volunteering / shadowing / research / extracurricular during the MD application process, like in the US? Is it purely GPA / GAMSAT to get an interview? I've heard it varies depending on the uni

Wollongong and Notre Dame are "portfolio" schools where you have to list all your volunteering/extracurricular stuff as part of your applicaion, so for those unis they're very important. However, for most oher schools in the country (Melbourne, Monash, Deakin, Sydney, UQ, ANU etc) they only look at your GPA and GAMSAT when they offer interviews.
