Hey so just wondering for anyone that just did HSF do you know why the second MST was marked out of 40? I just sat a resit today and it was the same pharmacology question (this time with numbers!) and realised there was only 6 questions so if they were taken out the test wouldn't it be out of 44 - was it bonus marks? Thanks!
we had 8 questions for that part. and 2 more marks from the location where drugs are acting bit since people argued 2 were from earlier topics
2015-2017: Bachelor of Biomedicine (Neuroscience)
2018: Doctor of Medicine (Withdrawn)
2019: Bachelor of Commerce (Actuarial Studies?)

thanks for your help! those location questions were also repeated but I'm not sure if they would take them out this time

I've heard from a few people that students start dressing more nicely once they start medicine next year. Not necessarily formal work wear in MD1, but neat clothing appropriate if they happen to find themselves in the hospital for any reason. Is this true or complete BS? If true, I'll need to work on my wardrobe because I pretty much wore tracksuits, jumpers and sneakers/runners to university every day in undergrad.

People do start to dress nicer in MD1, but I think that's more of an ego thing than a necessity :p You will need some decent clothes for your GP placements (only 6 hours for the whole year), though.

I apologise if this is the wrong section to be asking this, but I know there are a few med students hovering around here.  ;D

Has anyone had any experience with 'The Gold Standard GAMSAT' preparation books/ programs? It looks like a really decent program, and I've heard the textbooks are quite colourful and friendly (which suits me quite well aha).

I think that Des O'neill is much better if you can get your hands on the books (they stopped publishing last year I think). You can find them on gumtree or ebay easily. In my opinion, having tried the gold-standard book while studying for the march gamsat it was subpar (you can get the book for fairly cheap on gumtree, unfortunately i sold mine). I think the S3 book especially covered way too many topics in too much detail (my personal opinion) and didn't have enough questions on it. Des O'neill has a lot more practice questions on it and I got it for cheap on gumtree as well. I personally used just the gold-standard book and not the whole course for the march gamsat so I don't really know about the videos or the online content. I reckon it's quite expensive and probably not worth it for what it costs. I looked at some of the youtube videos on their channel though and they look quite good so I guess those could be useful (?). I personally used the book to go over science topics for the march gamsat this year and used des for most of my practice (although I didn't go through all of the books ) and scored fairly well (68) and i think i will be definitely using more of des o'neill for next year's preparation.

AbominableMowman (didn't want to quote that rather generous paragraph) :

I will definitely do some research into this fella, I haven't heard much about his books. Hopefully there is a website/ testimonials floating around somewhere for me to look through even though they have stopped publishing. I've noticed that there seems to be a new edition for the gold standard every year... How much could the book change on a yearly basis?! haha. The online course for Gold Standard seems to have a timer on it which I don't like... You pay a pretty penny for access for four months (until the next GAMSAT sitting) then you have to renew that subscription or something? It's all so complicated.  :'(

Practice questions are probably the way to go, but I'd also like to find my feet first in some solid theory.  Thank you for that advice, I'll definitely do some reading up on Des.

Cheers X

Des also has a theory book if that's what you need, I've found that to be quite useful.  Yeah Gold standard access expires and its quite expensive as well
