Yup, happening again. A reminder to all to download your lectures if you're worried about lecture capture going down.

So one of my lecturers has alerted the cohort of 900+ people that they will be uploading lectures randomly (i.e. some will be uploaded, some will not - all random) to ensure we come to lectures/'class'...

Now, due to work and personal circumstances I can't attend the lectures so I was wondering if there's a process for this sort of thing? Like some sort of formal request, complaint or would emailing the lecturer be the best option?

You could probably talk to the education people at UMSU. Lecturers are required to upload lectures, unless they can provide sufficient reason to opt out. Pretty sure that the "nobody shows up and that's bad" excuse doesn't work in that context. Probably best to try to sort it out directly with your lecturers first though.

just received an email instructing me to unenrol in my level 3 subjects(x3) because I haven't completed 50 points at level 2 yet.
(thanks to being in hospital last year and yes student advisors said as long as they weren't prereqs then it'd be fine)

.....  >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( seriously. im sure there's a way around this but i do not appreciate being told that students who haven't done so are basically doomed. like way to make starting uni again less terrifying.
just ugh.

Which subject is this? One of my lecturers said this and in the end all the lectures were uploaded and it was quite obviously just a scare tactic to make people go to the lectures.

Don't pay attention to it – I got the same message for Neuroscience and the Mind (even though it doesn't apply to me lol), which I assume is one of the subjects you got it for. They said they "strongly advise" not doing it without 50 points of level 2, but it'll seriously make 0 difference. You not having done a couple of level 2 subjects won't suddenly make you incapable of understanding the stuff they're discussing haha – especially cos you're doing psych and there's not a huge amount of assumed knowledge. I mean, Simon's part of the course is basically the same topics as his first year MBB1 stuff, but just in more depth.

So yeah don't stress too much about that, I'm sure it's just some crappy general email.  You'll be more than fine, I'm sure you'll smash your subjects  :)

From the BSc handbook entry:
Progression: Students must normally complete 50 points of study at one subject year level before proceeding to the next subject year level.

yeah but the issue is I was told by uni staff it'd be okay and now they've changed their minds.
