What's the point of the GAT?

Hi everybody! I am not exactly sure what the importance of the the GAT is. I know that they may play a small part your Study Scores that you receive for your subjects but these are only taken into account under special circumstances. If it does not directly and largely influence one's Study Score I fail to see how it's an effective means of assessment. Anyway, it is impossible to study for also as it is quite broad and is therefore no indication what-so-ever to the VCE commitments placed on students. So, is more of an IQ test? One of my teachers told me some schools teach GAT? Can you actually study for it after all?

This site tells you what the GAT actually is and how it impacts on your results should an unusual/unfortunate circumstance that befalls upon and hinders a VCE student from performing at their best in a Unit 3 or 4 exam.

Basically, it is used for:

Quote
The VCAA will use students’ GAT scores as a basis for:

* contributing to statistical moderation of School-assessed Coursework
* reviewing school assessments in School-assessed Tasks
* checking the accuracy of examination marking
* calculating the Derived Examination Scores.

In my opinion though, the GAT is a piece of...  *insert what you think is appropriate here*

I mean, you have really no idea what they do with the GAT results.  All they mention is that it is used for "statistical moderation" and "calculating DES".  It's very shifty in my opinion.

It says you can't study for it, but some people that I know say, "If you look at past GATs, you can see a 'pattern'" though I can't confirm it.

GAT SERVES A GREAT PURPOSE IMO. IT TESTS GENERAL KNOWLEDGE EVEN THOUGH NO ONE GIVES ONE SHIT ABOUT IT AND IT HELPS AS AN INDICATOR FOR HOW WELL X STUDENT SHOULD OR WILL GO ON HIS/HER STUDIES. EHH SUCK IT

The GAT is nerdy fun. And it's probably a good thing that it doesn't count for much. Work on it for the entire 3 hours just in case you get hit by some kind of transportation on the day of your English exam.

I wish I did, my GAT score for Written Communication was 6 higher than my real Study Score for English :(
