I think '&' is fine, but why not write 'at'? It's only two letters long...

When do you use 'at' in maths? Agreed with Rohitpi

i.e.when you specify the gradient at a specific point, eg @ x=1, y'=-1.

I don't think writing '@' over 'at' is going to save you much time tbh. And '@' isn't very mathsy anyway

Usually I write 'when' in that case, so I waste even MORE time :D

Yes! Use when x=1, y=2

Well if I wrote '@' on an exam it is allowable (would I get a mark deducted)? If so I will refrain from using '@'.

It's probably allowable and I don't see how they could deduct a mark, but why annoy the examiner when the use of "when" or "if" (or even "as" if you want) in such circumstances is so much more acceptable and commonplace?

i timed myself writing the @ symbol and "at" 20 times, in a readable fashion, "at" was faster - case closed :)

Well you can just use the 'given' symbol...  basically a straight line -->  |

e.g.
y'|1 = 2
or
y'|x=2 (subscript) = 2

Stop worrying about minor technicalities. There's so much more to improve on rather than worrying about should I use @, &, when, given...wtf
