Physics - SoM Arrived!
« on: August 12, 2011, 12:53:20 am »
Well, just some general reflections on the Physics Exam

First of all, I managed to score 159/180 - Scraping an A+

ie. 79.5/90

Funnily enough, I got 5 Questions on Further Electronics Wrong ( -10 Marks)

And I lost half a mark on explaining modulation (-0.5 Marks)
Although, this makes me wonder if I was lucky and I got two awesome examiners, I could have easily got an 80/90! D:

But the Further Electronics detailed study really does annoy me, as I think that we and the people doing Relativity really got dudded in terms of how difficult our detailed study was compared to Materials and Structures, which many of my friends as well as my teacher, said was VERY easy!
And to add salt to the wound, VCAA doesn't standardise Detailed Studies.

IMO, its really becoming a game of predicting the easiest detailed study, so if I were a physics teacher, I'd be picking F.E or Relativity next year, because it's likely it'll be easy next year!
Does everyone also agree on this unfairness?

Most people would believe that S&M is in general the "easiest" detailed study to choose from. But I agree, there should be some form of standardisation to level the playing ground. By the way, when did you order your statement?

Well there are some years where people say that S&M is harder than Further Electronics, but either way, its not fair that they don't standardise it, but I think we should scrap this whole detailed study stuff and just all do the same course, cause the point of the detailed study is for students to choose an area that interests them, but schools choose it anyway, so its pointless.

Even if it were standardised, we'd still have complainers!

I ordered my statement late last week, so last Thursday-ish

Firstly, congrats on the great score! :)

to Materials and Structures, which many of my friends as well as my teacher, said was VERY easy!
And to add salt to the wound, VCAA doesn't standardise Detailed Studies.

My whole school did s&m, and I don't think I heard anyone say it was easy.

It is probably the easiest detail study out of all, but not necessarily easy in itself

Like Graphite said, its not necessarily easy, but compared to further electronics and relativity, it was relatively easy
It's like saying Methods isn't easy, but compared to Specialist Maths, it is quite easy!

Either way though, there was definitely a discrepancy with the difficulty of the detailed studies

Well stated. Still awaiting my Statement, but my A+ will likely be close to yours, due to Further Electronics. I guess our chances of a 45+ score in physics is looking unlikely. All we can do is hope the end-of-year exam is incredibly difficult. :P

By the way pi, are you ordering a Statement too?

Nah. I roughly know how well/badly I did in each section and its not really as if I could change anything. And to be honest, I'm just happy to have gotten an A+ in the first place, knowing how low it is wouldn't do much good to my confidence.

I would only order it if I thought I 'beasted' the exam, or got a score that I felt was considerably lower than my prediction (eg. If I had got a B in my results sheet).

why thankyou "luffy" :P
"luffy" reminds me of your brother :P

LOL! nah, 45 is still possible
BUT! i hope that the end of year exam is very difficult and also that they make sound very difficult so that 92% of the state is screwed (:
(cause im not gonna do sound, photonics ftw)! :D
then the 2% of the state that do photonics get their day in the sun ;)

If you think that was bad, you should see him at school =P. Haha, I'm joking.

I'm joking around, if it were up to me, i'd like to see everyone do equally well, but considering that I got screwed by Further Electronics, I just want some consolation :D
Nothing Personal :P

45 is only possible if you get 100% or extremely close to, on the end of year

yeahh i know, but its still in the realms of possibility :P
that's why i want a particularly hard exam! :)
