Holiday Study Plan

What is everyone's study plan for the holidays?
I was thinking of aiming for each day
- physics exam
- chem exam
- methods exam 1
- spesh exam 2
- 2 english essays

With the maths exams alternating between exam 1 and 2 and rotating through english essays. Obviously I won't be able to do all of that every single day though. What about everyone else?

I'm going to leave it at doing 2 exams a day (though only have two 3/4 subjects).

Even if I had more than 2 subjects, I wouldn't be doing more than 3 exams a day. It'd be just way too much to do any more. Also you wouldn't be leaving yourself enough time to relax and look over your errors thoroughly (and to go relearn stuff if you need to).

Yeah good point. But at the same time I tend to go through them pretty quickly. Ie. I'd take about an hour for physics.
Obviously I'd do some under exam conditions as well but not all of them.

You still don't want to burn yourself out doing them, doing four or more a day you will start to do more silly mistakes on them, get tired more easily and as said before, make sure you take a break, otherwise you will hit exams with all of you fuel used up and running on the reserves.

I might do 1-3 exams a day if i can wake up early enough and also maybe 1-2 english essays a day. Also I might look over my notes/textbook to see if im overlooking or having trouble in a topic.

^ agreed. I know someone that did the same thing and actually did burnt out in the end. One of my teachers also recommended that we should have a one-day break in the holidays for relaxation purposes.

You don't want to stop at just simply doing the exam.

I would grab hold of the opportunity to thoroughly look over your answers and reaffirm what you know and don't know. This has been discussed to death on AN before, but I believe there's not much point in doing a load of trial exams if you're not taking the time to slow down and learn from them.

I remember reading about someone on here who did 40+ exams for a subject and ended up with a poor score.

Hell, I know that I made that same mistake. I did about ~20 trial exams for the physics midyear, but got kind of slack with the exam conditions. I was getting all the questions right by the 10th exam and I understood the course damn well. By the time I got to the real exam, I wasted too much time and didn't pace myself - which resulted in a C+. A decent score that could secure me a 30+, but disappointing when I know I could have easily achieved A+.

I know I definitely won't be making that mistake a second time.

i know that as much as vce is important you should still remember to eat properly and sleep properly.

Fact: if u dont eat enough meat you wont be able to concentrate, learn and memorise. (in saying this don't become a hardcore carnivore)

How many exams should you be doing? As many as you can. Does this mean I should just spam exams? Yes, however quality over quantity. Doing exams is only one part. Looking over them and analysing what you got wrong is another part. Also when marking you have to mark extremely harsh. This mainly applies to spesh and methods but when you correct your exam, don't just tick it if the final answer is right and move on to the next question, check if you got all the marks because even though you got the right answer, you may have lost marks because you excluded some working detail that cost marks.

Also honestly I don't get how you can 'run out of fuel' if you study too much. This isn't some rigorous physical activity or anything, its just mental concentration. I'm sure playing video games require just as much concentration (except maybe shooters lol) and I never get tired of those...

It's great that you can study hard for weeks on end without tiring out. That probably says you have a pretty good study technique. But refuting the idea that people can burn out from studying is ridiculous. If that was the case, why do office workers burn out? With your logic, shouldn't it really be only athletes that are burning out?

Let's face it, studying is serious business. Not only that, this is the most serious bit of Year 12. There's a lot more weight that's placed on studying than there is on playing video games. There's the pressure to do really well and get into the course you want. There's the constant stress.

I'm no psychology student, so I googled and found this: http://www.helpguide.org/mental/burnout_signs_symptoms.htm
Read through it, and you should easily see how the stuff listed there can apply to studying.

Being irritable is a sign of being burnt out (both of you). Getting burnt out is a very real thing, but with 2 months left I think you could make it OK, just take plenty of breaks and exercise. Good luck with your goal.

This is kinda my problem, I always push myself that little bit too far, just over the edge of what I should be doing. Really to do well this holidays and this year (and in life), we need to have a good frame of mind, stay healthy and don't over do it!

After learning from my Unit 3 experience I guess I am not going to spam as much trials as I did in unit 3. Instead I am going to go back to my textbooks and solve exam type questions and go over all the worked examples.

Trials wise, my ultimate goal Sunday-Monday:
- 2 Further trials, one of them being exam 1 one of them being exam2.
- 1 Methods Exam 1 one day and Exam 2 the next
- 1 Physics trial
- 3 Essays a week. (English)
- Legal... meh
2011:
Aims-
English 35, Further 45+, Methods 35, Physics 32, Turkish 33, Legal 28.

Beats Tarun's record I guess, hahaha, but wow are you serious, that's 8 exams per day! :P

btw, just because everyone's talking about it, WHAT IS BURN OUT?! LIKE TO ME IT'S A CAR RACING GAME! D:
obviously you guys understand it as meaning something different please do elaborate

----

anyways, my study plans? hmm, well I intend to do as much as I feel is required, I'm not the type of person that plans ahead, I don't even have a Student Planner (decided I can just mentally keep track of things) - yeah I don't know when my SACs are, I just kinda find out as they come kinda thing :D - so with exams it's the same, I'll set out a cycle, for example Specialist Maths, Methods, Physics, Chem, English and just loop through that, doing 2 spesh papers (ex 1 and ex 2) and then 2 methods and then a physics and then a chemistry...etc (: whenever i feel like it or I have time

so some days I might get done 5 or 6 some days I might get done 1 or 2...that kinda thing :)
