Places to do a regular subjects which my school do not offer.

This question has probably been asked before, but since I've only just discovered this website (thank god) I wanted to ask, are there places/institutes (like the VSL) which offer regular subjects like Businesses Management or International Studies ?

I really really want to do these subjects, by my school does not offer them.

Recommendations ?

PS: I don't want to leave my school because next year I'm doing year 12, and the sudden change of environment will not help me. I can't risk it.

Centre for Adult Education or Distance Education should offer those subjects.

Google them, I think for CAE you attend a night class once a week

You could always enrol to do it at another school if there is another local school that offers it, or there's always the option of doing it at a TAFE

This is probably one of the more ideal options, but it's pretty hard to set up. You have to get your school to co-operate and the other school to co-operate and then hope that the blocks for both schools don't clash (and that you are allowed enough time to travel there). I guess it's really only feasible if you have a method of getting between the two schools.

I still think that the TAFE option is also a good one, I know of people who are doing that and they seem to quite enjoy it because of the environment - it's much more of a university life, classes aren't so much compulsory - and you don't have classes everyday...etc

CAE requires you to be at their centre in time for class. You'd have to consider if you can make it there in time. That's a 2012 brochure, I don't know if the times listed there are set in stone. They say there that BM is at 9am to 12:30pm on Monday mornings and IS is at 5.45pm to 8.45pm Monday evenings.

If you can make it there, CAE is probably a good option since you'll be in a classroom setting with a teacher.

Having been there, it is a pretty good learning environment and I would probably recommend it over distance learning just because it forces you to go to class each week.

They have now joined up with Box Hill Institute, and they also offer VCE night classes if you want.

After a lot of research I have eliminated the thought of distance education, simply because I feel I will work better in a class and with a teacher.

I want to do National and International politics, but both of them are night classes.

Is there any chance CAE might change their timetable ?

Edit: Was also wondering would CAE accept me ? since I am turning 17 in March of next year ?

I was reading the brochure and it said something like if you're under 18 you'd need parental permission and need to show them your school report.

edit: from the brochure
Quote
If you are under 18 and completing all your VCE subjects at CAE you must make an appointment with the Youth Pathways Officer prior to the enrolment days in December and January. You are required to bring photo ID, school reports and the contact details of two referees to this interview. You should also be accompanied by a parent or other responsible adult

I'd imagine referees would be school teachers or something.

Wow what a relief, because when I initially tried to apply at RMIT to do my VCE they told me I needed to be 16 before the start of 2011, I thought the same would apply at CAE.
