So the oral exams are getting very close.... Mine is 14 days away now :/

How are you guys going with your general convo and detailed study?
Ive almost got my script done, just gotta start memorising it and making it sound more natural.

How are you memorising/studying for yours?

Good Luck! :)

I am so nervous and underprepared. Yet my teacher keeps saying that I am doing well and I will 'get there'... but when?!!
Almost finished my script, but I know a fair bit off by heart already.

I have mine in 14 days as well!!

Starting to hyperventilate...

I feel as if i should be finished with scripting by now, but i'm only about 50% done for General, and ~75% done for Detailed. Really worried.

Oh good to hear that i'm not the only one who's lagging behind....
I wrote out my general convo on genkoo yooshi and it was around 3 pages. Not quite sure about the detailed study tho. Realistically we would only need half of them tho.

Time to start memorising.....

Well, 3 pages genkoo yooshi is, compared to Khoa's scripts, very little. Take a look at his awesomeness:

Yeah i was looking at his the other day :/ Makes me feel very underprepared, but when i've practised it with our jap assistant, on good days i normally still only get through 3-4 topics for general convo...

Also do we need 16 grammar points for each section?

Good old khoa's is very detailed...
But realistically, I can't really cover that much points in just 7 minutes (for gen convo) and 8 minutes (for detailed topic)... i wrote like 6 pages for gen convo and probably only got through two or three topics :O
Instead, ive made it short and to the point--but just always make sure the damn examiners are on your terms...gotta make good linking sentences!

Yeah just make sure you control the conversation, like general convo if they start off with something you dont like then try swaying it towards a topic you're better at. But by then i hope i know everything off by heart, i really need to memorise this....

Any tips on memorising it?

one of my teachers told me that recording yourself and listening to it once a day really helps hammer the main points into your brain. You know that once you start being able to talk alongside your recording that you've got the stuff memorised :)

maybe not the best method for memorisation, but i think its efficient. :D

I think i just need to practice. Whenever someone throws me an unexpected question, i kind of freeze up and mindblank.

In terms of memorisation, I think practicing orally is the key. However, if you can't always access someone to practice with, I think that trying to make up your own conversations help. Think of the most complex way that an examiner might ask a question and mentally then verbally prepare a response. Sounds a bit weird though. Take a look at this link: http://lanesensei.podomatic.com/

Or you could possibly make some kind of mind-map showing all possible questions, responses and links in responses. It's good to think that you might be able to lead the examiners with linking questions, but i think it's reassuring to have it actually mapped out.

But if you're running out of time, like I am, make sure you actually finish your script first!

Yeah that's a really good idea! and that link looks very useful thanks!

The best way to practice is probably to actually have these conversations with someone else, i suppose i can get my brother to ask me the same qns over and over or practice it with some friends..... lol

Yeah, although the main problem with practicing with your friends is that they don't necessarily understand all that you say! (I certainly don't!)

No seriously, speak with people who don't understand you! give them a list of questions (in english) and have them throw random questions atyou! that way, you are able to be prepared and know how to weave you way through the quetion!!! That's what i did for my SAC...

after you do that and are confident with the types of questions, i reckon it teacher/ fellow classmates are the best resources...almost 7 days away from the exam! がんばります!

(dont know why i'm so enthusiastic, im panicking on the inside XP)
