there are approximately 43000 students taking English as a subject
Don't 1% of them score a 50?
So that's 430
I also heard this before on VN regarding last year's stats but I'm not sure if they're accurate:

No one got 10s on both text response and context
Less than 1% got a 10 on their LA

So with perfect SAC scores, 56 if not 55 could get you a 50, couldn't it?

you can find out the percentage by using normal distribution on the cas, mean = 30, sd = 7, pr>50

and no, you can't get a 50 with 55/60, no way, the only way to get a 50 would be at least 58/60

the normal distribution is exponential so it's actually harder to move up once you've reached 50 - the difference between a 49 and 50 is more than the difference between a 40 and 41

The chief assessor of English came to our school and said it was 1% and I remember the VCAA site saying somewhere that the top 1% receive a score of 50

Nope impossible. 2% of students get 45+ so how can 1% have 50's?

i know of a 57/60 getting a 50

Yep it's top 0.2% that get a 50 in a subject and I also know of someone who got a 50 and 57/60 on the exam. Just to demonstrate the importance of a high sac ranking at a shit school I got a 42 last year with 55/60 on the exam. Bloody crap school!

you can usually get 59-60 and get a 50, even a 58 MAY some years get a 50 if your sac marks are literally perfect (200/200 after scaling)..

For scores 47+:
The chief examiner and the executive examiners get together and choose who gets the 50's, 49's etc; getting that high of a score becomes purely subjective to these examiners. If any two scores are the same, they look to their LA scores to separate them. Also, they don't consider sacs at all for these scores. And to get a 50, you don't need three 10's, the highest score last yr was something like 9,9,10 or something-  no-one got 60/60.

And a couple of insider words on the eng. exam i heard from my teacher awhile ago:
- LA was done woefully
- Context for IL was done pretty shit
- A lot of people tried to be creative and failed at it for context as well.

Hmm.. that's interesting. Did your teacher hint at the cutoff being even slightly lower this year, since LA was done pretty badly overall?

She didn't say anything because she told me this as first marking was ending. I would guess maybe down a mark or so but not too sure

I have heard the same thing.

It makes sense, becuase they need some sort of consistency in the very high end, becuase the difference between a 9 and a 10 is so small.

Didn't we already go through this?

[SPLIT] DO SAC SCORES MATTER FOR 47?

They HAVE to consider SAC scores to some extent...
