Graphing slope fields

Hi I was just wondering if the CAS can graph slope fields for differential equations. My textbook says "some can" but I'm not sure if this include the TI-nspire or not...

In case you were wondering, I'm running version 1.4.11643 from 2008. Yes, I know, my CAS is sadly outdated because I'm too stubborn to change it. Can only the newer versions graph the slope fields/differential equations? Or can it be done on the old one, and if this is the case then how is it done?

only newer versions can graph it. some with 3D graphs.
just remember, if it says:
y1'=
and your equation is say, dy/dx=-x/y, then you need to input:
y1'=-x/y1

Another reason for you to update your software!! The new one is awesome the only difference is the home screen and you got some cool functions, most of the menus and functions are still the same :)

I'm running 1.4.11643 aswell and I can graph 2D differential equations. I just downloaded a file that had them built in and run them from there, let me see if I can go find it again.

EDIT: Found it, it's now in the attachments. Copy the file then use the software and cable to transfer it onto your Ti-nspire.

Thanks guys!

Yeah swarley, I should update it but I've used friends' calculators and it annoys me when I go to press "menu 4 2" and it doesn't come up with an integral :( ... new version messes with all my inbuilt reflexes...

Anyway I'll try b^3's software atm, if it doesn't work I guess I'll just have to update... :P

Just note it is not mine, its off the Ti-nspire extra sheets page ( I think), and it does work, it just takes a bit of getting used to. And I also get so annoyed when I got to use someone elses calc and I deleted a document using the same buttons that brings up solve and binomial expressions on a friends the other day.

Um... sorry for being so computer illiterate - but I connected my CAS to my computer (after finally finding the cable) and nothing happened. Do I need to install something else?

Yeah you need to install the program, do you still have the cd?

Yeah I found it - but it won't install because it was created before Windows 7 came out and so it says it hasn't been verified to work on my version of windows or something...

EDIT: Don't worry, wrong software...

Okay I installed it, how to I transfer the software to the calculator?

EDIT2: Don't worry, I think I got it...

So, b^3, you can only plot them within problems 1 and 2? If so, then I'm updating! :o

Well yes as far as I know you can only plot them when you open that document, It is rather a pain, but it still works. I'm thinking I should update too, but I'm sooo used to this OS now, "It's the only life I know".

It wont take long, you'll get used to it after doing an exam or two and just playing around with it. Defs check out the 3D graphing feature, pretty damn cool! :P
