Motivation slowly decreasing :(
« on: October 07, 2011, 03:39:15 pm »

I started off these holidays Really motivated. Everyday i was completing practice exams, and i finished checkpoints for both Accounting and ITA. But it seems that as we progress in time, I'm doing much less work!
Yesterday and the day before i barely touched anything and i'm scared that i will continue like this. Keeping that in mind i neglect the most important VCE subject, English.
I can't find that spark anymore that gets me up and running and actually doing something... i just don't know what to do anymore, how can i motivate myself?

About Philosophy

When I see a youth thus engaged,—the study appears to me to be in character, and becoming a man of liberal education, and him who neglects philosophy I regard as an inferior man, who will never aspire to anything great or noble. But if I see him continuing the study in later life, and not leaving off, I should like to beat him - Callicle

Dw, school holidays always make me feel too "at home" as well and I feel like I'm gonna end up with a 10 enter score hahahaha but once you get back to school, the motivation will undoubtedly come back :D

Just take a day off without worrying and go to your quiet place :P
Have a rest then try and get back into the mood, it's better than burning yourself out.

Yeah i guess you guys are quite right, i actually miss school a bit and i miss the motivation i had everyday  after school.
I have another problem and that is focusing too much on accounting. For unit 3 i got a B on the exam so all my time is devoted to that, hoping to get an A or A+ for unit 4, I have looked over a bit of ITA but for maths, english and text&traditions i haven't really put pen to paper.

I need to devote time to other subjects, hopefully i will when i start school again

I'm currently in the same boat. I am finding myself procrastinating, but trying to make this into healthy procrasination (instead of doing practice exams, watching psychology videos and methods). Just keep telling yourself I need to do this, and as soon as I do, I will have a break.

This won't work for everyone, and even works on myself only half the time, but changing the way you view motivation might help.

Motivation isn't waking up one day and being all like "You know what? I feel like working today. I have motivation today. Today, methods looks interesting enough to study for". It's just not. Sometimes it can be but most of the time it isn't.

Motivation is waking up and being "Fuck this shit, I can't write an essay today and I'm way too tired" and then knowing you need to study and sitting down and doing it anyway (albeit very slowly).

I find that if you look at motivation as a long term, slow burning thing as opposed to sudden bursts of studyphilia then you recognise that just because you feel 'unmotivated' doesn't mean you're not going to get work done.

But like I said before, changing this way of thinking doesn't always work for everyone. Perhaps you're already in the second frame of mind and the lack of a "burst" makes it really hard to study. I don't know. Just sharing something that works for me when I feel like not studying.
