UMAT while doing 1st year uni??
« on: October 09, 2011, 04:59:13 pm »
Hey guys,
Although my UMAT score is descent, if I didn't get into Med, could I sit the UMAT again next year whilst doing 1st year Biomed/BSc at UoM?? I know Monash will not accept me as I have undertaken tertiary studies but would other unis accept me into their undergrad stream???
Thanks  :)

hey man, what is your umat score,

remember that there is an ATAR/umat stream for monash, if your score is 80+, study as hard as you can and get 99+ and you will be in with a shot for an interview.

Cheers dude. My UMAT was 86th percentile, however, I am from a regional/rural area :). Do you guys know what unis would accept me if I choose to take this pathway? Also, do they look at your ATAR + GPA both?
Thanks

Rural combined with that umat would probably get you an interview at most med schools.

Romperait needs it, he did shithouse 8)

My friend (in uni) received 99 in the UMAT and is hoping to transfer interstate. I don't think they take into account GPA though :)

I know rural people with UMAT percentiles of 73 and ATAR of 95 doing med with me - so if you are indeed rural, you have good chances of getting into med, and monash's rural deinition is veeeery lenient.

Tasmania, ballarat and geelong = rural lmao

Most uni take into account GPA. UNE/UNCLE just needs a pass and UTAS wants 70% average. But anyone doing med will be able to get those marks

Say if I applied next year while doing Biomed/BSc at UoM, can I still apply through the rural scheme as I would have completed my VCE in Bendigo....or because i'm doing tertiary studies at Melbourne, I don't class as a rural entry?? *is hoping it's not the latter*  :)

Some unis look at your post code and where you went to for Primary and High school (JCU). Theres alot more answers at medstudentsonline.

I suggest you apply for BSc rather than biomed, its much easier to get H1s taking the science version of Biology, chemistry and the such. many of my biomed friends regret doing it for the prestige and merely "because they can get in" and ending up with H3s and Ps, reducing their chance into medicine after their first year.
