Stuffed up Media SAT, any hope left for a high study score?

So as the title implies, I stuffed up my media SAT, unfortunately I do not know how much by as we aren't given direct marks, just and indicator of VH, H, M ect. I am aiming for 45+ for media, but I stuffed up the final production piece quite a bit so I'm scared I've just ruined all chances of that. I got full marks for the folio section, the Social Values sac, and 2-3 marks off the Narrative and Influence sacs.

I was aiming for 100% which I definitely have to get, but is the SAT mark going to set my study score back significantly? The classes this year are pretty  strong, but for theory I'm ranked top 1-2.

Cheers for any advice or suggestions :)

If you are ranked top 2 I think you should be fine!

It's all about your ranking and how many people are ahead of you. If you can trust that the people ranked ahead of you will also do very well, then you shouldn't be in too much trouble.

Really? Oh my god that makes me feel bit more relieved that I haven't ruined a whole years work!

Im a little confused about the whole ranking thing, I've never heard it being mentioned at school, so would i be right in saying that if I do extremely well, and the majority of others are doing extremely well then I can achieve a higher score? How would it affect me if the majority of the two classes did not as well or poorly? There are a lot of people who do take media seriously, but there's a lot who take it for a bludge subject.

Explain stuffed up? Because sacs have very little bearing so a low marked sat will unfortunately, almost definitely let you down, even if you do well in the exam and sacs. I know a guy who only got 37 after getting A's and A+'s in his sacs and in the exam, but a B+ for the sat

Ahh I don't know my exact mark, I believe the criteria was out of 7 points, I got 4 very highs, 2 highs and 1 medium, so I'm not quite sure what that adds up to. Oh man, I really hope I get better than a 37, i it goes down all the way to 33 like my Studio Arts did, I'll never forgive myself. I know the exam is 45% of our study score, so I was really counting on that to pull me up a bit.

Nah, Very High is the highest score band(?). Oh good, I was seriously panicking there for a while, thought I went and screwed myself over, 45 might be a little more possible, but yeah, planning to ace the exam.
My teacher knows so she's marking me as harsh as possible with practice exams, nitpicking every detail so I can get 100%. God I love dedicated teachers.

Thanks for the reassurance, much appreciated :)

Well if you hope for a very hard exam, and if you end up being one of very few who do get 100%, that will go a long way to compensating for your low SAT mark, but SAT GA's are marked like Exam GA's, not like SAC GA's as far as I know, meaning that it is given raw marks rather than a mark based on a ranking, that's why I've been told by friends doing Arts subjects, so I think your low SAT mark would have a negative impact on your study score, but given you do very very well on a hard exam, a 45 is within reach :)

Oh yes, I'm definitely hoping for a hard exam. Is there anyway to predict that though? I checked assessment reports, but unless I skimmed over it, there's not much of an indication if students found the exam as a whole too hard or easy, unless I can use the mark distribution somehow.

You'll need to look at the grade distributions, which is the normal-like curve but usually that's not important, in the bottom right hand corner for Graded Assessment 3 which is the Exam, there should be a cut-off for A+. That should indicate how hard the exam is.

Oh wow, I didnt even know you  could see that information. Well it says that for 2010 the cutoff for A+ was 51/65, and for 2009 it was 50/65. Can I assume it would be something similar this year? It seems quite low, but I'm not entirely sure if I'm reading the information properly, does that seem low? It seems pretty low to me :/

You're hoping for the lowest cut-off possible, it shows that it's a hard exam, but I think you're reading it right, it sounds right to me :)

Yeah the media exams are marked quite harshly so by their standards that's not low at all.

For the record, I'd say the 2010 exam was much harder than the 2009 exam. The higher cut off could possibly be attributed to the cohort being slightly better that year.. Supported by the fact that media didn't scale down as much in 2010 compared with 2009. Also, if you're after a challenging exam definitely do the 07 paper, it was a son of a bitch :P

Oh balls really? So does that mean this year will be relatively easy or something? I need to get a hard exam if I have any chance of a high ss, which is something I never thought I would be saying. Oh, thanks for the tip, I just finished the 08 one, Ill do the 07 one tomorrow!

I'd say yes, usually after a hard exam they make an easier one. Although that's just a prediction, you never know what will happen. And tbh, you can definitely still score well. Your score for your SAT doesn't even sound that bad. Just work hard for the exam and you'll be fine :) It's worth 45% as you already said, which is quite significant.. And Media = the best subject... so it's heaps easy to get motivated to study for it!
