Subject dilemma - 3 mid years or a subject you hate?

I have decided that for next year, I am dropping Legal (for various different reasons which I wont go into). But the problem is, due to timetabling I am left with two feasible choices. I can either pick up Psych or Business Management.
I may enjoy Psych, but that would leave me with three midyears. Out of all the subjects I'm doing, Chem and Bio are the two which I want to go really well in. I'm afraid that having three midyears may detract from my ability to go well on the midyears of those subjects.
I know that I won't enjoy Business. But going on what my friends have said, its an easier subject than Psych and it would free me up to concentrated on Chem and Bio during the midyears.
So basically my question is, is there anyone out there that had done three mid years and gone well in at least two of them? Would doing three mid years hurt my chance for good scores in Chem and Bio, or would it be a better idea to do Business which I hate and have one less midyear?
Ahh the dilemmas of subject choices.  :(

I had 3 mid years this year and I don't know what you define as "gone well in two of them," but I got A+'s in all 3 of my mid-years (though 2 of them were lower than ideal) and I am quite an average student too. For me, preparing for the mid-years was the lesser of two issues because the content in unit 3 is actually quite small (for chemistry, physics and accounting - can't comment about bio). The larger problem was having two exams on the same day, the first of which drained a lot out of my mind. If you are a well-organized person (unlike me), then having 3 mid-years will not be difficult. Just make sure you begin preparing for them early in the year because they creep up on you very quickly.

Also, to answer your question, having three mid years can hurt your chances ONLY if you do not study wisely at the start of the year. If you are consistent, you will find that you can prepare for them easily, especially if you have a keen interest in the subjects (which you seem to). Just make sure you don't get demotivated/burn-out half-way through your exam revision.

Lastly, if you do not have an interest in business management, I highly suggest you don't choose it even if you do decide against psych. Trust me, doing subjects which are very 'boring' is not a good idea in year 12 as they highly demotivate you and frankly, are a large cause of my laziness. Thus, choose a better alternative (which interests you) if possible.

Yeah - but a lot of that can be attributed to luck. I don't know how I made so few errors in the methods exam - I was making heaps of mistakes in my practice exams. For the mid-years, two of my A+'s were far lower than I desired (though they were expected) and hence, the grade itself was based largely on luck.

Also, my 99+ aim was more an unreachable goal than anything. But, you're right - hence, I changed it to 95+. Though, that is still higher than most the state, I'm sure its quite average, given the ability of students on this forum.

This gives me hope to ace this years methods exams. I hate silly mistakes and get a lot of those "what was I thinking" moments throughout the year.

On topic: If you are determined enough (i.e. really put your mind to it) and word hard throughout the year, then there is nothing stopping you from doing well in 3 mid year exams and all the exams at the end of the year. It's better to do more of the areas you enjoy than to waste time in something that you hate that you are not going to put as much effort into.

I havent done three mid years, but heres my take;
if you study consistently, three mid years will not feel be hard to cope with + much easier than end of years = 5 exams+ (although spread out)
in midyears, you have to cover only 1 unit, WHICH will also
alleviate any pressure for end of years - a further one unit.

For accounting, unit 4 is literally 6 chapters, you can finish the whole course within a week without going 'all out'
as luffy said, dont do a subject you do not enjoy, you'll just hate it completely..
look at the psych course, the types of questions asked on exams and see if you enjoy that sorta stuff

Don't do a business subject if you don't enjoy them, it will just come back to bite you in the arse at end of years.

its just the trap most people fall into (or maybe just me)
Slacking term 1,
realising ur mistake a few weeks in term 2, and cram cram cram.

You, Luffy, are beyond an average student :P

He's just being modest ;P

but I understand what you mean when you say that you made a lot of careless errors but somehow they fixed themselves when you go into the exam, that happens for me with SACs as well, it's the adrenalin and the "in the moment" feeling that you get when you do an exam that prompts you to be extra careful and meticulous I guess, but hey, doing well on the exam will go some way to atoning my guilt for doing so badly on practice exams, spesh especially ;P

but back onto the topic, there's nothing wrong with having 3 mid-year exams, you'll have an easier end of year exam to counter the effect which isn't too bad after all if you think about it :)
just don't worry, things like these work themselves out, go for the subjects you want to do and that you think you'll do well in, don't worry so much about whether there's a mid year exam or that sorta stuff, in year 12, exams are a fact of life, you get used to them :)

find out exactly what you will be doing in psych, you may hate it too and theres your decision done for you
ask the psych teacher or sit in on a class or smth, who cares if you look like a fag, it's better than doing shit you hate for 3/4 of a year
