Network Topologies end of year exam?

Is Network Topologies going to be on the exam like star,mesh, etc.
And the types of information system too.

Plus, has any done the Nelson textbook's practice exam? When I did textbook's exam, it was so different the examination specification sample one.

According to Mark Kelly - vceit.com, network topologies are not examinable. The IT study design is poor though, so best to know it anyway.

Network Topologies are in SD not ITA, so they're technically not examinable, but know them anyway, as well as a few basic advantages and disadvantages for each, it's not that hard to learn

I think just know the main ones well: Star and Bus, the others you can get away with some sketchy knowledge

Types of information systems is a definite, I think you would have to know it, not in as much detail as SD, but you have to know their names, and their functions, especially important ones like TPS

Really in VET I.T there in the course. You would think in a VCE version of the subject they would be included.

VET IT and VCE IT are two completely different subjects, with the VET being centred around practical applications whereas the VCE Version is more theory intensive

I still which I had have the chance to do apps though, its more interesting.

Network topologies are not mentioned on the study design directly, but we do get stuff close to it (P2P, client-server, LAN, WAN) and also a few cable stuff (not in as much detail as ITSD though). Network topologies are in the textbook for good reason though, it helps with questions like 'what type of cable is being used in this LAN network" etc.

Just learn them to the extent the textbook describes. What we need to know about them is pretty basic.

Types of information management systems are most definitely on the course: U4O1 dot point 1 - "types of goals of organisations and information systems".

Also, you have misinterpreted the VCAA sample questions. They are not a full exam - they are merely a set of questions on only the stuff that is new or has changed.

I agree with that, the simplicity of it in ITA puts it into the "you might as well know it" bracket - because even if it is not assessed, the understanding in other areas you gain by knowing about different network topologies and their advantages/disadvantages will help you with regards to other questions

Yeah,
Section A - Multiple Choice, 20 questions - 20 marks.
Section B - Short Answer, 11 questions - 70 marks.
18 pages.

It shouldn't really be much of a surprise to anyone, it's pretty standard of previous VCAA exams and the trial exams.

11 questions probably means that there's probably quite a decent spread in the topics covered.

Looking at other exams though, they all seem to cover the same content - regardless of the number of questions. If there's less short answer, it usually means that there's more parts to each question (e.g. part a, b, c, d).

I agree. But I don't think we have to know their specific functions.

For those that have Nelson's textbook (Potts & Lawson), go to page 140. "VCAA does not require you to know specific types of information systems...following material is provided as extension only".
The book then discusses the five different types - a TPS being one of them.  The study design only says "types of", not functions. I do SD so I know them anyway, but I'm fairly sure that we only have to  know the basic details.
