Does mitochondrial DNA mutate faster or slower than chromosomal DNA? Justify your reason.

Many sources say different things, what does VCAA accept?

What I believe is that the coding regions of mtDNA mutate slower than regular chromosomal DNA, however in the non-coding regions (the D-loop) there is a higher mutation rate than chromosomal DNA. These regions are called hyper-variable.

Wait, so which would you say mutates faster?

In the coding regions the mtDNA is slower, but in the non-coding the mtDNA is faster..?
