http://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/vce/studies/englishlanguage/englangeligibility.html

You need 3 Units of English to be eligible for your VCE. One of those has to be Unit 3 or Unit 4.

Going by that, if there is a risk of failing, I would very seriously start being nice to your teacher, offer to make up all possible work in any possible way etc.

If Unit 1 was passed, it should be okay - but it's probably better to well take that extra level of safety and do everything that is possible in order to pass Unit 2.

to add to my original post, i was away for an english sac, and my teacher said he could fail me for the whole of unit 2 for just missing that one sac. is that true? if i dont end up redoing it can i fail a WHOLE unit just for missing one sac because i think thats quite odd. none of my other subjects are like that. oh how i hate english... -.-

Yeah you can fail an entire unit because of one sac - your school would/should have made you aware of this as well as the correct procedure to follow if you know if you're going to miss a sac. I'm pretty sure that's the case for all subjects - it is at my school at least (your other teachers must be a bit lenient or something). I'll try to find the VCAA documentation about it for you.

Definitely go redo the sac.

Edit:
Here you go:
http://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/schooladmin/handbook/2011/AdminHand2011-PartC.pdf
The relevant pages are in the first few pages. It basically states you have to gain a satisfactory on all outcomes (which are assessed through SACs etc.).

Yep. If you don't have a medical certificate it is an unapproved absence. If you don't sit a SAC you fail the unit.

Usually teachers let you sit it at another time anyway just to make their records look better.

Yeah and most teachers really aren't out there just to get as many students to fail as possible either. They're usually quite nice people.

I've added the link to the VCAA documentation in my previous post now.

ok thanks guys for the info. And yeh from my experience my maths/science teachers tend to be more leniant towards shool coursework ( they care much more about the end of year exams), whereas english/sose teachers tend to be more 'by the book' so to speak.
