hey guys,

Ive always had a question about ranking and really like to find out if it really does affect our study score for that specific subject.
Last week we got our english results, and theres two different class because demand.
The other class has a very lenient marking style and our class teacher is a harsh marker (in which she should be).
Some students in that class got marks which i believe they could never get in the exam.
Im not judging someone from their academical level, although clarifying the truth about their english.

Now, because of their sac scores, and i got a B for my first sac, will that hurt my study score.
If i do better in the exam then my sac will i be affected by their sac marks, because there going to be higher ranked then i am.??

SACs are usually crossmarked.  Your teacher's marking shouldn't have too much influence over your marks, actually.

No idea about your question though.  Supposedly it's a combination of your class ranking and your actual exam mark, but I'll let someone with in-depth knowledge elaborate on that.

Thats what we were "told". After I got my mark back, the teacher went through my essay with me and said "they dont really get cross marked". "they kind of just get checked to see if the structure is right". She says if you disagree with the mark, then you can ask another teacher to check it but I think teachers usually try to agree with one another. They dont want to go against another teacher's opinion.

Students who do not perform well on the coursework, but do well in examinations, will not receive a good coursework score. To do well overall students must do well on both coursework and examinations.

Students who perform well on coursework, but not so well in examinations, will receive good coursework scores after moderation.

I think that relies on your cohort doing well on the examination. If you are ranked 1st in couresework with 100% and anyone gets 100% on the exam in your cohort, I think you will receive that 100% coursework score in all likelihood regardless of your exam score. Can anyone confirm?

3) Hmmm I asked a similar question on vceonline.com.au (completely inferior to vcenotes.com of course). The question was:

If you are ranked first in your SACs, does that mean you automatically get the highest exam mark for your whole class? And if you are ranked second, does that mean you will also automatically get the second highest exam mark?

Someone said: If your ranked first in your SACs, and your subject is 50% exam and 50% SACs, then you will get the top exam mark from your school in that subject as your SAC score in that subject and you will retain your exam score. You will always keep whatever your exam score is for your exam component of the subject, it's just your SAC score will be determined by how the class performs on the exam. If your ranked second, it won't necessarily mean you will get the second highest exam mark, but it will mean your SAC mark will be (pretty much) whatever the second highest exam mark someone from your class has got.

Can someone confirm?
