Why do we assume that the power at point S is 100kw, in this question?
I guess, I'm not understanding my basics that well :-\

Point S is where the power is delivered to the village
and it says in the question that they need 100kW

Not really needed for this question, but also remember that power remains constant in an ideal transformer. If power in the primary is 100 kW, then power in the secondary will be 100 kW (and vice versa).

Power loss really only happens when the power travels across a transmission line.

For extra confusion (you don't really have to worry about this): I don't remember VCAA ever giving us a non-ideal transformer (it usually states it is ideal, but if it doesn't, we assume it to be ideal [like in electronics and photonics from Unit 3]). There was an iTute question that stated that it was a non-ideal transformer, all you had to do was adjust the answers you got out using the percentage efficiency you were given.
