my picks are the usual select entry schools, plus I've heard private schools such as st kevins, ruyton, and scotch have very strong cohorts this year, what do you all think?

The same ones that always do well haha.

Highly doubt any school is just gonna jump 50 or so rankings in a year :P

I've heard that this cohort is strong in general, irrespective of school. I know it's not much to go by, but our naplan results are significantly higher than any other year

22* ;D

But this is still very insignificant compared to all those private schools/selective entry schools.

yeah, but we're probably the best non-select, non-private school in terms of marks though :\

22 is still a heck of a lot of people :S

sad how we didn't get any 99.95's
but this year, oh come on we have to get at least one 99.95!! - it's been since 2006 :(
we entered the school gifting its year 12's will four 99.95s, and we shall exit the school gifting it with many more 99.95s :D

lol naplan...

Anyways there's a new school that's going to be on the list of schools this year and it's my old school Simonds Catholic College! They use to only have students from Year 7-Year 10 but they extended it to Year 12s 2 years ago so this year it will be the first time they'll enter the list of schools LOL!

But yeh I'm pretty sure this year's MHS cohort might be stronger than last years but I also know of many strong students from other schools as well. The competition is just too much to bear!  :( BUT I'M LOVING IT!!!  :P

(let interpret this a different way - i.e. do well = most improved) I'd rather look at the schools that have improved most in the last year (particularly in the western suburbs) instead of the predictable results of melb high and macrob. Just to see who has jumped up the most.

About Philosophy

When I see a youth thus engaged,—the study appears to me to be in character, and becoming a man of liberal education, and him who neglects philosophy I regard as an inferior man, who will never aspire to anything great or noble. But if I see him continuing the study in later life, and not leaving off, I should like to beat him - Callicle

(dux at our school) Our school does it differenlty, we had our awards night on wednesday and the dux is given to who the teachers think will go on to get the highest ATAR and do the best. I didn't think I was in the running and was sure I knew who should have got it, in the end they couldn't split 3 of us (scores too close = sac scores + comps e.t.c). But keep in mind that our school gets around 10 (or so) and we are ranked around the 300make that 400 mark (just checked it), so it is not as comparable to say the dux at melb high or macrob. But it does look good on a resume.
