He didn't just get a 50. He got a premier's. Just saying. :P

What exactly is a premier's award? top 5 students in that subject? :S
Yep. So he beat 15 995 kids if we take the nice number of 16 000 do Psych.

I've heard that this cohort is strong in general, irrespective of school. I know it's not much to go by, but our naplan results are significantly higher than any other year

I didn't take the naplan seriously because I knew it wasn't going to go on my report, so I purposely answered every question wrong :P

I think Melbourne High School will be 1st and Melbourne Girls Grammar School will be 2nd. Just my two cents.

My school (PLC) has a ridiculous number of 99.95 contenders this year - just judging off year 11 3/4 results, we're going to trump the 2010 cohort (most of the smart kids did IB before, now more do VCE) - out of the ~15 kids who did Methods 3/4 in year 11 last year, ~10 got 45+. Last year, all 3 academic awards for Methods (based off SAC rank) were given to year 11s; this year 4 were given to year 12s (meaning they pwned the year 11s). Plus, I think about 4 three kids already have premier's awards under their belts, at least 6 already have a 50, and there are a few who have multiple 48/49-ish scores from year 11.

Other projection: this year's high 99s cut-offs in particular are going to be absurdly high.  I'm thinking it might even go back into the 210+ range - there's an absurd number of intelligent kids at the usual "hotspot" schools (Scotch/MGS/CGS/MGGS/PLC) who have one or two 50s (or close to 50s) under their belts already, who also do (and are very good at) a number of language subjects/Spesh.  Interestingly enough, I haven't heard much about MacRob's cohort this year (other than Menang being awesome), although the MHS kids are quite strong (although lack of languages sometimes keeps them from the 99.95s).

I need to get a life.

i don't think the cutoffs will change heaps, because of the relative nature of all the scores. as in, there may be heaps of intelligent english students but the same number will still get the 50's 49's etc. Although there will be a surge in the cutoffs, i don't htink itll be huge.

Nice! Now to brag about Scotch :D
Hmm, our year 11s had about 8 fifties in total last year (including 4 for methods, all in my class! :D), including four premiers' awards. The median for methods in my class (which was basically all year 11) was 46, and we had about 30 year 11s do methods 3/4. And there's been talk going round (between ex-Scotchies) that my year level is apparently the strongest for a while - hopefully we do well!

Ok, enough bragging about Scotch.
Hope all our schools do well!!!

EDIT: 1111 posts. Oh yeah!

You guys are so lucky (why couldn't my school be like this, I'd sure be more motivated to study right now, not that I haven't worked hard all year), make sure you make use of what you've got.

Also nice post count Thushan.

Whoo I get a mention! :D

Just to get MacRob on the board:
12x Year 11 50's last year, with at least 4 Year 11 Premier's Awards that I know of.
I forget how many 40+'s there were in Year 11, but it was probably every 8 in 10 girls. Jussayin'.
