Where do you see the future of World English?

Hi everyone, I'm writing a practice essay on the topic of 'where do you see the future of world english?' (I'm currently doing unit 2 Eng Lang) and I'd like some advice on potential points of discussion.

In summary, I have written that english will be even more widespread in use, particularly internationally due to trade and travel, and that structure wise, english will be increasing its lexicon with advancements in technology, lose its linguistic ties to infrequently used 'old' words, and that the rules governing the 'correctness' of english will be relaxed, due to the influx of 'text speak', abbreviations, etc.

I'd love it if you guys could give me at least one more point to talk about?

I might be a bit off, as I only do English General (doing language next year) but couldn't you also refer to the fact that many sayings in the English language are based of customs and traditions of the english speaking world at the moment.

For example "Oh My God!" expresses surprise, yet it also links to the idea of religion.

You could infact say that with the internationalisation of the English Language, these ties will be weakened and other phrases would begin to be used instead to promote total understanding.

Some extra considerations :):
- English arguably, is or was the language used by the powerful. I.e. It gained worldwide status largely due to British rule in the 16th century (check dates please :p) and later America by later eras.
- English was also simply at the right place at the right time. For instance, had factors such as the printing press been designed prominently for other languages such as French, it may very well have been the world language we see today.
These have played significant roles in the way English has developed and continue to develop, in my opinion :P. Knowing this, you might also look at how China's growth as the globe's super power may pose as a threat to the widespread use of English.
You might want to look at how English is the popular choice for advertising, entertainment (hollywood/media/music) and as you say, travel, business and trade, and how it ties in with how English has developed, and will... Where the likes of Standard English can provide mutual clarity, other non-standards begin to indulge in the contemporary cultures and trends of society.

Hope nothing here is wrong, but just some quick ideas that came to mind. :)

Appreciate the help guys :) I thin I'll base 3 arguments in my essay on englishs spread & dominance, its structure, and its influence on other languages' evolution.
