metaphase this is where homologous chromosomes line up in the middle randomly not being influenced by anything, anaphase just separates them, so they dont get assorted

however, there was a previous post that said in the vcaa 2003 assessor report that stated it was anaphase :S

well acording to neap it is metaphase I,as the two difffernt chromosomes could line up on the equator in one of two ways thus resulting in the random pairing of homologous chromosomes.

Hmm, yeah, it is tricky.

Metaphase I assortment determines where they will move during anaphase I so I really think both need to be accepted but I guess anaphase I would be the safest answer?
