Extension Maths or Biomedical Science?!

Hey!

I was wondering if anyone could brief me on what Biomedical Science at Monash is like? (Assignments, Tests, Assumed Knowledge).
I did have a look at what the course contains but I would like to know if anyone has had first hand experience. (Or second hand. :) ).

I am interested in doing the extensions Maths, as it complements with my subjects for next year and I LOVE maths.

However, I am very interested in the Biomedical Science as it contains two of my favourite subjects!

(Also, Could anyone recommend any University level books for Maths and Physics?)

Thanks!

I did Extension Maths this year and I found the course pretty do-able. It's a new course this year, with first semester doing "Elementary Linear Algebra" which is... not so elementary? LOL but the content isn't that hard and it's actually pretty easy to get 80%+ for assignments and exams. We used a free PDF version of a book but in the end I just relied on notes to survive and barely touched the PDF.
Second semester you do calculus and you had to buy a $140 book and I found it extremely helpful with assignments and the exam. Overall, the course is interesting and as it seems pretty hard along the way, in the end, looking back, it wasn't that hard at all.

A few things helped with my understanding in spesh but not that much overlap. You can always pull out before the end of.. March I think? without having to pay the fee.

Hope this helped

Hey! Thanks for the reply!

Hmmmm, Reading that makes it seem as though University Maths has NEW concepts.... :)

What book do you use? Calculus: Early ___________ ?

Did it make Methods/Specialist seem easier, in comparison to University Maths?

Yes, uni maths does have new concepts, which is what makes it interesting.

I reckon.. makes spesh seem only a tiny bit easier but I don't think it gives you thatttt much of an advantage. In the end.. I think Specialists exam 2 is harder than the extension maths exams LOL.

The book is Calculus Early Transcendentals, seventh edition by Edwards and Penney.
I can sell it to you if next year uses the same book and if I don't happen to take up 2nd year mathematics.
