Ellipse Question

What were the 4 marks for?
Obviously one mark was for the intercepts...but did you have to show any other co-ordinates for the other marks
i.e. Centre

Yeah, it was four marks. I had no idea what they were for, so I wrote a lot.

That's stupid, it didn't specify anything except for the x-axis intercepts...if they take marks off for not labelling the centre and y-axis intercepts it's just....

It was four marks and ALSO half the page had lines for working. I got a bit paranoid so I use those lines of working to work out x-int, y-int, centre, domain and range.

But I didn't label the centre because I was too paranoid, thinking that you can't label a point if it's not part of the graph.

4 marks might be:
  • Correct Shape
  • Centre at (0,10) which hopefully we didn't have to label
  • Correct X-intercepts labelled
  • Correct Y-intercepts

But what was also strange was it said to label the x-intercepts but nothing else other than to sketch the graph.
Or was it assumed knowledge that we had to label the centre and turning points of the graph...

I labelled the 4 extreme points and the 2 x-intercepts but not the centre, thinking the same thing as acinoid. If i lose that one mark I will be sadface :(
VCAA shouldn't be THAT tight though it ispretty weird that a single graph question was worth that many marks.

Dam, I only labelled the x-intercepts and nothing else. Well I'm done to 77 :(

I think the 4 are for:
-Both X-ints
-Shape
-4 extremes
-Centre

I just labelled all the usual things, cos VCAA might rkn that the extremes and centre are 'implied' for every ellipse graph..

I have no idea what the question was but:

did you guys label the actual ellipse (with the equation)? Or the axes?

I think the extreme points aren't needed because you would clearly draw the ellipse through those points, due to the gridlines.

I'll be pissed if they are needed, ha.

I just label all the necessary points for a graph just to be safe, even if the question doesn't ask me to.
