Doesnt inference refer to information which needs prior knowledge
It promotes coherence

Inference is something that has been deducted from the text, by the writer.  It assumes the reader or listener knows about a specific topic due to cultural and implicit knowledge to create coherence. If the reader/listener doesn't know about the inferred information, the text would make no sense, causing confusion.

AKA:  The writer assumes you know about their reference.  If you don't, you aint gonna get it.

Cohesion.

eg.  repetition.

George likes music.  George was not hungry.

Synonym/near synonym

The man asked her to sing a song.  Her voice vibrated as she sung.

Hyponym, hypernym, superordinate, co-hyponym.

Plants (Hypernym) are a general term to describe the majority of flora.  Flowers(hyponym) is a more descriptive term.  The
Rose and Sunflower(co-hyponyms) were the most interesting.

etc :)
