Derived Score?
« on: November 17, 2011, 04:09:40 pm »

I have been contacted by my school to consider applying for special consideration following a car accident which resulted in my car being a write off.
Fortunately I have come off with just some pain in my back and shoulder.
Is it worth applying for a derived score or is it unlikely to be approved?

Thanks :)

your marks will almost always be knocked down as a result of a derived study score, btw, I hope you're ok following your accident!! but if you can do the exam, which it sounds like you can, I think that would be the better option for getting a better study score! :)

Haha yeah I'm fine feeling very lucky thanks :)
I think the proposed idea was I will still do the exam but to apply for the special consideration and if it is approved than I will get whatever score is higher whether it be my exam score or derived score.
I'm just wondering before I go through filling out the papers whether it is likely they would actually approve my application :)

I'm not sure if you can do that or not actually, as in apply for a derived examination score as well as sit the exam.
I think that even though you fill out the papers, if you sit the exam, thats kind of like showing them that you still can sit it, the DES is really only if you absolutely cannot sit the exam

Maybe someone who knows more than me can clarify?

I've got the forms and it has two options for why you are applying and then you tick whether sat the exam or not :S
So although I am able to sit the exam I may not do as well due to stress and loss of sleep etc. from the crash which is where should I do worse than expected on the exam the derived score if higher may be applicable... but that was my understanding and I may have misunderstood :) but the sheet advises if you are applying to still sit your exam just in case..

Definitely apply for a derived score. If you sit the exam as well they will just take whichever score is higher. You can't lose doing it. FYI, the derived score is based on your GAT, so I hope you did well.
