hey guys, this might be very irrelevant but i figured i may as well ask you guys since you all have enrolment experience. So, my course at monash requires 84 but on the course website it says that with seas i can get in with an atar of 75! surely, its not that simple. For seas, i qualify for the very first category because i was born outside of Australia and came after - 1/1/2012. Can you guys explain how this works and please tell me if i can get in with an atar around 75, i meet prerequisites requirements too! Thanks, id like any type of input. Appreciate it!
So like, we can't provide a concrete answer, because the amount of points that are added on by Monash to your ATAR varies from person to person. Qualifying for more categories, etc. will generally mean you'll have more bonus points because you've been disadvantaged more, but it's all assessed on a case-by-case basis. If you're still confused about it all, I'd really recommend having a chat to the careers teacher at your school - they'll know the process a lot better than any of us.

Commonly, plenty of people will get into a course with an ATAR below the clearly-in anyway, so even if you do get below the 84 (and without taking any possible SEAS into consideration) you could get into the course regardless. In the end, you won't find out whether your SEAS application was accepted or not - all you receive is a course offer!
Just as an aside, is the 75 you're quoting the ATAR for the
Monash Guarantee for that course? If so, it functions a bit differently, to my knowledge - the categories are if you have experienced financial disadvantage, live in a low socio-economic area, are an Indigenous Australian or attend a Monash listed under-represented school.
You'll find out if Monash consider you eligible if you get an email from them - it should come sometime later in the year. Submitting a SEAS application is enough to get them to consider you for the Monash Guarantee - there's no special application required.
So yeah, like, basically:
- It's impossible to say definitively whether you'll get in or not, because we're not the selection officers for Monash
- If you want to do this course, put it as your top preference even if you're not sure whether you'll get the ATAR or not. Always order preferences by how much you want to do something, not whether it's something you think you can easily get into or not.
