Week 5 already! How'd that happen? It seems like just yesterday all you new people were scared first years, now look where you are, stressed first years.

I think today is the last day to drop units so if you want to do that, you better hurry up. It's already too late to pick up another unit but that's how it goes (kinda makes sense too, you'd be 5 weeks behind).

---

I dont think we even have anything capable of playing CD's anymore. It's kinda sad, i miss the album art and the quality (unless it's direct from the masters, all the music you get will be ripped from the CD and inevitably a lower quality). I got spotify now though, for like $8 a month i can get all the music i want (legally too) and find heaps of shit i've never even heard.

The quality doesn't beat my MP3 collection or CDs (even when i get the "premium" quality you get for paying) but its still pretty good.

Metaphysics, if it exists, is literally the worst subject in the world.

Does Graeme Oppy still teach it? I never had the space to take it but it seemed rather interesting.

What don't you like about it? You seem pretty ethics heavy though, can't blame you if its out of your tastes.

Doing Indian philosophy right now. At first i was extremely skeptical but it's shaping up to be OK. You usually need to apply other philosophical principals and ideas to successfully push your point (i was worried id be more or less isolated to ideas from that tradition but i'm whipping out Frege, Descarte, etc).

Also doing this one ATS3884 - Space, time and deity: Themes from Hume and Leibniz but my first assignment isn't due for a few more days. It's a little unusual in that its the first unit i've taken that's only focused on a person or two.

Yeah he does, he's a good bloke.

I think the entire field is ridiculous. (I mean, questions that are close to being human, like, 'is there a God' are worth pondering and I guess have some level of value to some people), but talking about whether the universe is made of things or stuff just has no value - instrumental or intrinsic - nor do the questions even have answers. Even if they did have answers, they'd still be inaccessible to humans. It's just stupidly frustrating to quibble over absolute ludicrousness. I sort of liked it for a bit but honestly, as a field of study, it's just fucking ridiculous lol. (No offence to metaphysicians).

I'd probably take the call that I'm ethics heavy. I don't particularly like aestheics or metaphysics, but I quite like the other fields, and don't even mind aesthetics that much. That being said, I've thought a lot more about Pol Phil than something like epistemology, but I think thinking about epistemology is worthwhile on some minimal level. I just can't say the same for metaphysics.

Would love to do Indian philosophy.

In everyone's experience, is it worth asking for a piece of assessment to be remarked? I just got a disappointing mark a week ago and I've been mulling it over. I'm quite concerned that this will damage relations between me and my tutor, who will mark other pieces of assessment during the semester.

I had the same feeling last semester for an essay. I emailed him, politely, and you know made sure I wasn't questioning his expertise at all and asked for a recheck. Managed to get my mark bumped by by 9%.   :)

Quote
Colleagues,

The exiting raised timber deck area in front of Green Chemical Futures Building will be modified to provide more intimate seating opportunities. The works will involve a reduction to the existing timber decking area with the introduction of further lowered deck style seating and hexagonal paving to match existing. The benefit of this will result in more intuitive navigation with improved lines of sight from Rainforest Walk.

These works will commence on Monday 17th Aug and completion is expected on 17th Sept.

does anyone know what to do if you have due library books but are really sick so you can't bring them back?

I'm concerned I'm going to get like $50 in fines as they are one week loaners :/

Could always give them a call, library staff are usually quite understanding* and may be able to renew them or something :)

Hope you get better soon!

They've put up these giant temporary walls on the matheson ground floor and it looks so weird.
And according to a librarian, renos won't be finished until 2016. So painful.
