Do you AN'ers take any specific steps to reduce the chances of myopia occuring?

Went to the optometrist today, i'm 0.75 , or 6/12, which means i need to stand 6 metres to read something most people see at 12 metres.

This is borderline acceptable for driving, and as such i would desperately prefer my eyesight does not deteriorate further in year 12.

What can i do to lessen the likelyhood of (worsening) myopia occuring?

I'm also slightly myopic, my optometrist had told me that it is common for this to occur in your teenage years. As for prevention, there is little you can do, what is happening is your eye is becoming ever-so-slightly football shaped... it isn't caused by anything.

I have answered your question, now please open up your message tab and proceed to answer the question I had sent you.  ;)

Yeah not much you can do to prevent it, just get some glasses?
I've had that + astigmatism since I was 5 so I just wore glasses and am wearing contact lenses now.

I have the dodgiest eyes ever - 20/20 for ages, then my left eye started deteriorating, by the time I noticed my eyesight was slightly dodgy, it was at 5.0 prescription, I had to wear a contact lens in one eye for a couple of years. Then my right eye got worse, currently sitting on 3.5 (at least I can wear glasses now when I'm too lazy for contacts) So yeah, I may not be the best person to give you advice, but all I can say is avoid straining your eyes. Sometimes, though, there's not really much you can do about it. Try downloading f.lux (google it) for your computer screen, it's definitely easier to look at at night.

I was always told to look at things in the distance every now and then, which I do. Dunno about the scientific basis (if any) behind that though..

I'm sitting at 3.5, which may worsen in months/years to come :-\ (damn technology!)... I honestly don't know how you could avoid it, but probably eat more carrots (to maintain your eyesight, NOT to reverse damage) and cut back on the technology which is kinda impossible LOL. I reckon myopia really has a a genetic component, so if your parents/aunts or uncles wear glasses, be extra cautious..Also I heard that stretching your eye muscles (pretty much just opening your eyes as wide as you can - you can actually somewhat feel the stretch haha) every 30 mins when studying is also important

I don't know what all these 3.5 stuff means. I had my eyes tested about 5 years ago and had 20/20 vision so I'm guessing it's the same now.

LOL 3.5 (or more correctly, -3.5) is badddd :-\ The lower your eyesight prescription score is, the worse your eyesight is bound to be

It's a measure of the strength of the glasses. 1-1.5 is fairly light, if you tried them on they would only be a little blurry. 3.5 is quite blurry. 10 is like blind.. (my friend has 10+ i think).
