This is from essentials extended response Q4

The base of a 3 m ladder leaning against a wall is x metres from the wall.
-Express the distance, d, from the top of the ladder to the ground as a function of x and
sketch the graph of the function.

Is it just simply:

Is that what the question is asking for?
is correct but your next step is wrong. Can you figure out why?

Will the answer just be:

Yes but before jumping to your answer, you need to write down d has two values (positive and negative) but the negative one is not feasible here (since you don't have negative value for the length of a ladder!)

Well yeah, but I mean how does VCAA access rounding?

I guess a better would be having to work out from say, an exponential graph, how many years it takes for a population to double. If you get 2.3 years, do you write 3 years or 2.3 years as your final answer?
I believe VCAA has said that now for exams round as you have been properly taught, not with logic.

Most of the time the paper clearly states how many decimal points they want from you. Of course if they ask you to write a full number, you write 3 instead of 2 or 2.3.

I'd say that the population doubles in the third year. Otherwise, actually tell the assessor what you have chosen to do (making any option you choose really safe).

I tried graphing , and was wondering what the asymptotes of this graph are. I have the correct shape of it, but the position of the aymptotes, particularly the horizontal one is confusing.
thanks

There is an asymptote at y=-1 that is approached by the two ends of the graph (and not by the middleish section) if that makes sense.

okay, so does this asymptote actually go through the graph? would we draw the asymptote 'cutting' through the middle section?

Does anyone know what the first sac for unit 1 methods is usually on?  So i can have a general idea, i know it varies my school to school.

Well or first SAC is on quadratics, but like you have said, it may differ from school to school

Yeah, i'd assume it would vary from school to school. The first test will probably be on linear functions (so equations, graphs, simultaneous etc.), and the first SAC could exclusively be on one of the chapters (was like this for us. Our SACs for methods1/2 were pretty much like extended response questions) or on the first few chapters (so maybe linear, quadratic, polynomials). Again, it could possibly be different at your school - but i'd recommend practising extended response questions for SACs. :)

Just pointing it out, SACs are for 3/4s only, in 1/2 they're usually called 'outcomes' or just 'tests'.

Last year for my school we had around 3-4 tests per semester and an application task at the mid-end phase of each semester.

It usually varies between schools as they aren't SACs or so to speak not regulated by the VCAA.

Our first test was on Linear Functions (graphs, basically Chapter 2 if you're using Essential Maths Methods).

Second was on Quadratics, so I'm guessing your first one would be either one of those two.
