Due to my organizational Failure, I am overseas from 18th Jan 2012 until 26 feb 2012
That means I am going to miss compulsory info session, Enrollment Day and O-week.
Should I head back to Melb earlier (might be very difficult depending on availability of plane seats or/and Contact Monash for further instructions?

Hey, from my experience, info day/O week isn't important at all! I didn't go to mine and did just fine :) However I did attend enrollment day, the only important thing I remember on enrollment was getting your photo taken for you student ID card, now I believe you may be able to do this on another date, maybe call up Monash and see what they say, however you definitely won't be missing much! Unless you really want the tour of the uni on info day (which isn't that helpful lol) and all the partying that goes on in O-week, then you should go, but yeah doesn't really matter if you don't go :)

The compulsory information session is the biggest joke of a session ever. What they do in those 'compulsory' session is just make you get on a computer and enrol on WES, which can be done online at home.

Don't even bother going to the compulsory sessions. However, I found that O-week is a good chance to meet new people but then if you're overseas, don't worry too much about that =) You'll get more chances later on to make new friends.

P.S. You can get your ID card the on the day uni starts. I did and so did a whole bunch of other people.

Isn't there a thread about people fretting over missing so-called "compulsory" days every year? Heh.

None of it matters, trust me. I missed every single "compulsory" day when I first went to Monash except enrollment day (which wasn't compulsory either). What do you think they're going to do? Kick you out of your course if you fail to attend? Of course not.

I sent my Dad as a proxy to enrolment day, which worked out perfectly fine.

O-Week is a really good opportunity to make friends.
It's not useful in terms of academics though... those compulsory sessions are useless, and I wouldn't stress about missing them.

So what should we go to on o-week and what shouldn't we go to?

i.e. what's fun and what's boring? :D

Any event involving information about academic studies can be skipped. Everything else is usually pretty good.

I was in the exact same position as you and I know how you feel. But yeah, don't worry about missing O-week, isn't important and you will make friends during the semester. Enrolment day: I don't know what happened then but I sent my uncle as a Proxy to enrol for me.

Folding the paper aeroplanes in Engineering O-week was pretty epic.
