Yeah hydroxides are insoluble with a number of cations so they wouldn't be a very suitable electrolye.

The oxidation of H+ isn't likely to happen because H2(g) in alkaline conditions is a stronger reductant and hence will be oxidised preferentially.

Thanks for the help everyone :)
I understand... it was actually so simple lol... strongest reductant and strongest oxidant... *sigh* :X
sorry!

What unit is enthalpy in?
I thought it was just joules as its change in energy,
But then i realised for reactions its kj/mol?
Confused!

Either joules or kilojoules (or megajoules, etc) per mol.

The "per mol" just reflects the fact that the given enthalpy change represents "one lot" (in mol) of the equation with which it is associated.

Yup, and then you use the coefficients of the species in the equation to find out how much energy 1 mole of that particular chemical releases in the specified reaction.

ahk thanks,
what if it it gave you an energy profile and asked for change in H or something similar? Would you just give it in terms of J then?
Woudl you ever give enthalpy in terms of J only?

Don't quote me on this (brain is a little fuzzy at this time of night) but you should probably go with whatever unit is used on the y-axis. I can't see that it would ever require you to give it in terms of J only, because that information is more or less useless in terms of actual application. I'll check tomorrow.

Got 3 chem exams left in me,
Done about 5, 1 or 2 VCAA,
what should i spend these 3 exams on?
all VCAA?
or a split?
what companies should i do?
Thanks! (I'd be happy with any A+ if that's relevant)
