^Senior Students Resources Centre

Yeah, the thing is that they suck hardcore.  The guy who owns it is a tool and a liar.  I would suggest you avoid this place.

Old guy who wears glasses ?

Yeah...his sales pitch will go something along the lines of:
-Asking you what subjects you take
-Showing you every item in his store which relates to these subjects
-Telling you every one of his items is 'great' and to buy them.
-Making up some bs story about his daughter who got an SS of X in subject Y and used some book which he sells.  (For some reason, his daughter's study score in psych changed each of the three times I was in the store)
-Telling you to buy some book because all of the Asians at MHS are using it...

Total jerk.  STAY AWAY!

Also note that their self branded crap is useless...

Yeh, I got sucked into buying their self branded books, because those were the only things I could for the subjects I was doing.

Again goes to show how people skills > PhD

I took one of the SSRC self branded study guides to my tutor for my English text (Cosi), and she went through it with me showing me all the bad techniques that they used in their sample essays and warned me that I should never use them.  So I guess it kinda was useful haha...rather hilarious actually.

Nah, not really.  It is kind of different with science subjects.  Heaps of resources are already floating around.  Just look around and I'm sure you'll find some decent stuff. :)

Should I bother doing practice exams from previous years if my subjects have new study designs ?

Yeah, definitely...especially becuase there already aren't many resources for your subjects available.

The format of the exam may be altered, but overall I wouldn't expect too much change in terms of content.  They may add in a few new bits or take out something, but in general past exams still have lots of relevant questions and are probably your most useful resource.

yeah SSRC is pretty dodgy in general; though i've had pretty bad customer service at A&G sometimes

Oh god A&G...I went there at the start of the year and put a deposit on a book that I ordered.  They call me like six months later saying it has arrived.  Total morons.

if you're going to CAE, why not ask your teachers for practice exams? most of the teachers i've known there are experienced and connected to one of the organisations for teachers of their subject (vate, vaps, mltav, cav et al).
btw, what's your lote?

oh well, you'll have plenty of time during the year to suss out practice options from the teachers or from other sources. having them now won't be much chop without the context of the course content suitably digested.

when you do start the year, don't forget about building C. there're small kitchens there where you can have lunch on the cheap, and it's a quiet place to study.

oh, and good luck with the arabic!
