Revised version for VN :P

Elaborating on the above:

90+ is decent and requires X amount of work
95+ is respectable and requires 2X amount of work
99+ is congratulatory and requires 4x amount of work
99.7+ is impressive and requires 8X amount of work
99.95 YOU ARE ON GOD TIER and requires 16X amount of work

Revised version for Asians.

90+ is death by hanging
95+ is death by firing squad
99+ is death by guillotine
99.7+ is disowned by parents
99.95 could've done better.

Good is totally subjective.

Some think 99.90 is good while others think just passing VCE is good.

My parents consider 80+ good (which is pretty ridiculous considering we're ASIAN LOL).

The average person will probably find 70+ good. This may be a surprise for many members on this forum since many of us place high values in education but this takes into account the large part of the state which isn't as competitive.

I guess a 'good' ATAR is what you would need to get into a 'good' uni (ie. Monash/Melb) which would be around the 75~99.95 range

but obviously this is subjective and I agree - a good ATAR is an ATAR that you need for your course! :D

If the relationship between amount of work done and ATAR achieved is exponential, I would not be where I will be tomorrow

The relationship is near enough exponential.
You cant seriously suggest that if you do X amount of work for 90,  11% more work you will get you 99.9

Not necessarily - the percentage is symbolic of people, but the difference in marks gets smaller and finer the higher you go up.
The model of a bell curve itself pretty much shows that...

thushan: you better get a 99.95 tomorrow or else.... but no pressure... ;)

Meh, I think a good score depends on the person's intelliegence/how much they have worked - it's a different scale for each person...

poor thushan :( he's gonna have nightmares tonight!

yeah that's true btw, I think what's defined as good depends on what your expectations are, what course you want to get into as well as other factors such as the effort you put in and what your friends get (to a certain extent i guess)
