Part Time Job Possible?
« on: December 21, 2011, 11:07:06 pm »

Just finished and all my friends are looking for part-time jobs. I was figuring I should start looking for a job too but then I remember Dr. He telling me that he does not recommend you get a part-time job if you do actuarial studies due to the work load.

I'm guessing first year it's still okay but after that is it not possible to get a part-time job?

Kinda hard, won't you think?
But casual jobs would be quite
achievable.

If I have friends who have jobs in Melbourne and but study in Bendigo you can definately do it :)
you can try to be really effective in what kind of job you get, like maybe one close to uni? My friend works at Hungry Jacks at Southern Cross Station. He goes to work, goes to uni, gyms at uni, still goes home and studies and sees his friends. Mind you, he does Science, but first year commerce isn't too bad aside from A-maths, which u don't do ( I THINK) if u haven't done extension maths Anyways. talk to tram.

I worked 12 hours a week during VCE (apart from exams time), and I managed quite easily...

You have to do A-maths in actuarial studies. Or Calc 2/Lin alg but you've met the spesh requirements so meh.

Uh I dunno what Dr He is saying. My contact hours ranged from a huge 12 hours to an even huger 14 hours per week. Only subject that would kill your time in first year would be Accelerated maths but other subjects you can get by with Swotvac cramming. Also you have to love accounting or at least tolerate it. And if you can't tolerate it then you should bring a laptop loaded with FIFA and play it all through lectures.

But yeah seriously, part time job is very manageable, plus extra money is good and requires less commitment than a girlfriend. Just sayin'. Plus getting a girlfriend would kill all your money anyway as you attempt to be chivalrous.

He earns a lot of money, no reason for him not to pay.

He earns heaps.

Actuarial in first year doesn't seem that hard, I know this one idiot who got 50-59 in like 3 subjects, HD'd his prereqs and somehow made it to second year actuarial whilst playing streetfighter and being awkward for about 19/24 hours each day.

See you need money to get a girlfriend. And then you need money to keep a girlfriend. So pretty much, you earn money so that you can get a girlfriend and then subsequently so that you keep your girlfriend by letting her spend all your money.

Its like life. You are born so you can go to school. You go to school so you can get a job. You get a job so that you can die peacefully.

Its all inevitable and sorta pointless.

Wow, no wonder I'm single.
