Hi so I was just wondering if universities can see your other prefereces. Like for example if I put MelbourneCommerce as my first preference, and I put Monash as my 2nd preference, can monash see that I put Melbourne Commerce first?

No they can't.  That is why VTAC exists.  VTAC acts as an intermediary between you and your preferences.  That's why it takes so long between receiving your ATAR and getting your first round offer.  VTAC has to process so many applicants to make sure they receive the highest offer on their preference list.

I'm sure.

I investigated the same thing. I had UoM originally as my first preference and Monash as my second, and I was hoping for a second-round scholarship offer from UoM but wondered if they perhaps knew my preference order and wouldn't offer me a scholarship because they assumed that even without one I'd go to UoM anyway. In the end I decided I wanted to go to Monash and so made it my first preference, but yeah, I'm sure only VTAC knows your preference order, not the universities.

Can you receive scholarship offers to courses that are like your 5th and 6th preference? I was hoping for a second round Monash scholarship offer to a Science or Biomed course, but I don't think I will get it because I put Melbourne BBioMed and BSc as my 1 and 2.

I think the unis know the preference for their OWN course that you applied for, but not the other preferences. I say the former because one of my friends was called by Melbourne by phone for a National scholarship and was told "I see you have Melbourne as your second preference, may I ask why?"

Each university only sends a maximum of one offer to VTAC.
Thus, naturally the universities need to know the order of your preferences for courses run by them.

Ah, that figures. :D Thanks Fyrefly. Another question - I'm being paranoid I know, but I have reason to be, wont get into it - but is it possible for Melbourne to 1) revoke the National scholarship and/or 2) refuse me a place on the Chancellor's Scholar's Program if UoM was not my first preference? This is assuming I don't get into Monash Med (first preference).

You'll get into Monash Med - don't stress!!

But no, they really don't have any way of knowing unless you tell them. Even then, they can't in good conscious revoke a scholarship offer just because of your preference order; there's nothing in the conditions of the scholarship that says you have to make UoM your first preference to be eligible.
