BComm at Uni of Melbourne or Monash university?

Hi everyone! I was wondering which university is better? (eg. cost of living, job prospects, living environment) I have also heard that it's easier to score for your grades in Monash rather than Melbourne? Is there any truth to that? Thank you so much for any help on this matter! I've been lurking around the internet for days, but I haven't got the info i wanted. Ps. I am an international student so cost of living is quite high in the priority list

i have always held the belief that hte monash commerce degree is rather quite prestigious, and streets ahead of the monash one. however, a few people have mentioned on this site that they are relatively equal, but the honours/masters (all sorts of further study at melbourne) is without adoubt a lot better at melbourne than monash

Hey lol first of all, i like your username haha

with regards to your question I can assure you that commerce undergraduate at uom or monash is roughly the same, in terms of material taught, prestige, quality of lecturers and so on, there have been many threads on this. I'm not quite sure on the living environments for both unis, maybe someone else can answer that but i can assure you that there no "easy" way of getting a good grade at monash or uom, you have to work hard to get the grades you want, both uni's are equally "hard" to get good grades. If you are considering moving on to masters and so forth, uom would then be much better than monash - prestige, better structure and so on.

thanks, that's the only thing in my mind right now haha. i'm thinking of completing my degree first, then find a job. How about job prospects, does employers really care which of the two uni i go to? Also, i'm under my national scholarship so i really have to take into account the gap difference of cost of living between the two universities. The fees aren't really a problem as it is fully funded. Thanks again for your replies!

Tbh employers shouldn't really care about where you graduated after bachelors, I mean they could even pick a deakin commerce masters graduate over you; however there could be some that cares, who knows, an employer could be biased against monash or melbourne, you really don't know. But under most circumstances, you'll be fine if you end up graduating from uom or monash - it's the same in an employer's eyes.

So yeah, the decision is really up to yourself :) best of luck deciding where you go, both unis are equally good for bcomm!

I can't thank you enough for your replies  :D so, job prospect out of the way, how is the gap difference in cost of living in monash or uom? Is it significant or just a few dollars?

Are you talking about college, renting a place or general daily expenses (food, etc)?

In terms of college, i don't know, you should be able to find out on the internet, but it's probably too late anyway now

In terms of renting a place, Melbourne and the city/inner city would be significantly more expensive than near to monash

In terms of general expenses, not too much difference at all, city might be marginally more expensive over time, but not to the extent that i would include it in your decision making calculus

I was enquiring about the daily expenses living there, since the university fees are all paid for by my sponsor. Everyone keep saying that I should go to Melbourne cause it is more prestigious, but I don't really care about the name, as long as it doesn't affect my job opportunity later on. So generally speaking, how much cheaper would renting a place in Monash be as compared to Melbourne? As in hundreds of dollars?

I don't know about Melbourne, but I live
really close to Monash (10 min walk).
Rent is around 400 - 500 per week, and
you'd get much more room, compared to
renting an apartment near the CBD.
Dunno about rent at Melb., but I'd say more.

So generally speaking, i'd be saving a lot if I lived near Monash rather than in Melbourne? Thanks again for your replies!

you would be saving alot, however its easier to around melbourne than it is with monash as in like if u wanna go out and have fun/eat, clayton is pretty boring and in order to go places u need a car, unless u dont mind taking alot of buses/trains. wheras melbbourne u have the whole city at the palm of your hand and it is easy to get around by tram/walk.

so yes u would be saving alot if you lived in suburban areas in clayton. but city isnt half bad either.

i go to monash clayton btw lols so yea not like im biased or anything

Hi! I was offered a place in Caulfield, so does that make any difference? Cost of living wise.

But keep in mind Caulfield is more accessible by public transport. Its right near a railway station. Clayton is further away from a railway station and you need to catch a bus to get from the station to the campus. Both are on a main road eg. Princes Highway or Dandenong Road.
Uni Melb is just a bit out of the CBD.
For what did you get an offer for Caulfield? Business?

yeah, while majoring in Accountancy. I was quite suprised that they did not offer me BComm in Clayton, but it's basically the same right? Subjects and prestigiousness wise? And in your opinion, which place is better to live in? Is the rent in Caulfield higher compared to in Clayton?
